Another vote for Patrick Stewart.

Not quite Bowie-esque, but I'd be very sad for Björk and Trent Reznor.

Oh, Tina Turner, too.

Maybe Wes Anderson, maybe Heidi N Closet.

Cate Blanchett.

Another Drag Race’s fan ? I tought I was the only one !
I loved Heidi too btw

Kate Bush, Tim Curry, any of ABBA, Tom Lehrer. I will also be sad when Derek Griffiths and Annette Andre go.

Well, the two stars of my youth already broke it. Rik Mayall and Ryan Dunn. Thankfully, I have an autograph as a memory of Rik. But those deaths broke my heart.

But if I had to name two living people...

Paul McCartney - I've been to numerous concerts and love everything Macca.

Ricardo Kaká - my favourite footballer of all time. But I'll probably die before him.

I think Springsteen is the only person I'd take a day off work to mourn.

@Toast? and @Windsor?

Maybe...

Doubtless they'll confirm or deny. :)

If there's a vote for "not fussed enough about the monarchy to want it abolished, but don't mind Queen Liz on the whole" then that'd be me. imo it, give or take a persons specific bearable royals, would be the landslide opinion...

The only celeb deaths I see myself getting outset over would be one of the Simpsons cast. Loved that show as a kid

Oh, and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains. Massive fan of that band.

I'm still considering my options, but Bruce is definitely on my list.

Sometimes it takes you by surprise though.  I went all teary when Diana Dors died, although if asked the question before,  I wouldn't have thought of her.

Certainly the Queen.  I have enormous admiration for her.  She seems to be such a lot of fun behind the formal front, as well.

I think I'll add names here as they occur to me.

In no particular order

Bruce  nah, fuck him, he's betrayed his fans big time

The Queen :(

Grace Jones

Robert Plant

Tina Turner :(

Any of the Rolling Stones  :(

Bernard Cribbins :(

Marianne Faithfull

Sean Bean

Princess Anne

Uhtred son of Uhtred, Lord of Bebbanburgh

Bearing in mind everyone alive in the UK who is under 70 have only known one Queen or King then I think the enormity of it will get us all a bit - even if we are not royalists she has been a constant in our lives.

Which 'who' are we talking about? Doctor Who? The Who? Neither of those would break my heart, though the former's death would for the majority of this forum's members.

Oh right, it's a question. 'Whose'. I see.

Well yes, the Queens eventual death will be the biggest political (societal?) event of our lifetimes. I expect it to make Diana's death look quiet and lowkey by comparison and frankly I'll completely understand it - many, many people depend on reliable signposts and momuments in their day to day life to get by, and a near 70 year monarchs reign is pretty much Exhibit A in that regard.

Death is an essential part of the monarchy. Renewal.

One day the Queen will be dead, but the King will still be alive.

Ditto on Lemieux and Brooks.  Would add Bill Murray, Ian Anderson, Robert Fripp, Dave Cousins, Lee Trevino, Norm Macdonald, Ron Paul.

Charlie Daniels and Billy Joe Shaver were favorites of mine so this past year wasn't great.

The reason I finally started death-pooling, actually, was Arnold Palmer's death.  After he passed I assessed that there was no celebrity living whose death would hurt me more so I felt safe playing.  I could never ever bring myself to pick Bill Murray under any circumstances, though.

I hear you on Normy. Foundational for my sense of humor.

Honestly they have all gone now.

I might shed a tear when Peter Falk finally succumbs to Alzheimer's though.

My surgeon when he has a heart attack in the midst of an open heart surgery :D

(Also, probably David Attenborough and Michael Palin. Perhaps Ian McKellen)

Also, where's the sarcasm font?

That death would actually warm my heart.

I imagine Jimmy Carter's demise hitting me pretty hard, given the extent of his humanitarian work and him being the last pre-Reagan prez.

Other than that, none that haven't already been mentioned come to mind.

Definitely Betty White. She’s been a hero to me for a long time now and I’m going to be so sad when she’s gone.

Not heartbreaking exactly, but Geoffrey Boycott, an early sporting hero of mine (before I knew what sort of person he was) and Barry Gibb, the last of the Bee Gees. Agree with the above re: Springsteen and the Queen.

I'll be gutted to see the end of those few musicians who have always been reliable for inconsistency and favoring art over playing the commercial game. Neil Young (his latest $150 million windfall notwithstanding) for sure but also those willful outliers who are approaching old age (Steve Hillage for example). That said, Chuck Berry (dirty old dawg that he was) turned in a decent album aged 89, even if he didn't live to see it released and charting. So, who is to say Neil Young can't do the same thing at 100?
