Actually would be a useful resource to have, as the forum search engine is, as we all know, somewhat temperamental.

Yes, I think it's fine to have it. Especially given some names with threads like Mr T are extra difficult to search for given the shortness of their name.

I agree the idea is fine, just a bit perplexed by the arbitrary nature of the 'Still somewhat known' names in bold.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind it: I'm familiar with Iyad Allawi (not known) as a key figure after the fall of Saddam, but I've never heard of Joseph Estrada (known - but his thread is 1 page long and hasn't been added to since 2007). Mr T is known but Christian Slater is not? Ted Kennedy's widow is known but Patrick Mower, who's still IN Emmerdale isn't? What am I missing?

Hi this could be a really good idea but the index needs to be non year specific and alphabetical otherwise once complete it is as good as useless.

I'll make more of the names bold as i've got everyone on the list, it's still very WIP

Also I'll probably also change how they're categorized, one way would be by the birth year of the person or as Grim Up North suggested, alphabetically. Or maybe both, everyone born in one decade (1920s, 1930s etc) in alphabetical order

As much as it pains me to admit it, I'd say Victoria Beckham is quite well known too.

I think this will be very useful, if

1.  It is pinned.

2.  Names are listed alphabetically by surname.

I'd also dump the idea of highlighting the "known" names, as this is obviously subjective, and it's pointless because if you are looking for a particular name, it follows that you are aware of it.

I didn't peruse the WHOLE list, just took my examples from 2004-2005. :P

But yes, I would agree that the Artist Formerly Known as Posh Spice is still vaguely in the public consciousness.

I have actually wondered if the number of "active" single-people threads is more or less stable or actually inflationary.

John Mccarthy is still alive isn't he? He certainly wasn't born in 1927. So he and Terry Waite need to be amended.
