Frail after an aorta surgery in 2018, the popular pool pick and kingmaker in Italian politics will be 96 next month. His political career started in 1944, joined the Communist Party in 1945 and elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1953. After he became the President of Italy in 2006 at the age of 80, he turned the role of the President of Italy from a ceremonial role to a very influential one. He was re-elected in 2013 at the age of 87 but resigned in 2015 at the age of 89. After that he has focused on growing more spots on the top of his head.

Which one will go first, Napolitano or Berlusconi?

Italy has 5 heads of state or government over 90 alive, but most of them seem to be hanging by a thread.

1)Giorgio Napolitano (1925): aortic dissection in 2018, initially given a very poor prognosis, has been very frail for the last few years. Hospitalised in 2021, now in ICU after abdomen surgery, though not in danger.

2)Arnaldo Forlani (1925): in ICU in 2016, frail and bedridden for the last few years.

3)Ciriaco de Mita (1928): hospitalised in 2020 and 2021, severe fall and broken hip in February 2022, stroke in April 2022. Still serving as  a mayor nonethless.

4)Lamberto Dini (1931): the toad is in excellent health and still giving interviews as of May.

5)Nicola Mancino (1931): apparently in good health.

He won't see 2023 anyway. He has been overdue for the last few years.

Well..... I am not so sure anymore. He is on my 2022's DL but I think he will stand at least for the next year.

He's currently in the statistical gap between Helmut Schmidt and Walter Scheel on that list of 100 oldest ever so I think he has increased chances to die between now and late August.

Napolitano unable to chair the Senate tomorrow.

He was doing it as the oldest member of the Senate. Will be replaced by Liliana Segre.

He would be a good substitution for Berlusconi in next years DL.

NOT DEAD

2023 is the last possibility for Napolitano to join the DL. Keep it in mind.

It would be fitting if the menu for his funeral buffet contains tuna.

I was not sure if Jacques Delors would outlive him. Now, we will enter in a battle race between Delors and Carter.
