Deathrace 2022

Recommended Posts

Look I think we all know the real victim here. The daft sod who made that Bogdanoff guy his third sub, not his second or first sub. :banghead::D

Lawrence Brooks - today's toast, livens up the lower order a little with Death Impends and Captain Chorizo bagging points. Worth noting, Chorizo is holding a good fifth place whilst Frank Field (joker on cc's team) still  holds onto a pulse. Tension mounts, even if it's beyond the ability of most of the masterlist to mount anythingB)

An Fear Beag - 1448

Death Impends – 1088

Captain Chorizo – 1086

The selflessness and sense  of cameraderie that has marked the Deathrace continues, many thanks cc for aiding Death Impends' cause.

Kuzma - He was fat, he blathered, now he's dead, he no longer matters - or summat - q/o from The Sun: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/17243320/doug-kuzma-dead-covid-podcast/

Either way, leaders now ONE hit away and six teams into four figures

gcreptile – 1090

And my solo pick Carol Brickell died on Dec 31 with an obituary coming out yesterday. If she gets a QO I think that seals it. https://obits.dallasnews.com/us/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/name/carol-brickell-obituary?id=32117289

To note, found this page that notes her death, I have no clue when that would have been added https://lcfamerica.org/hero/carol-brickell/

I assume next sub comes in.

At least I know now how obscure I can get for this contest in the future.

Heh. I had Carol Brickell as a fourth sub or something like that, basically as a last resort, because she was too marginal for me, her only book being a cancer book.

But yeah, we should avoid having to find out the names of each "grandma goes to hospice today" on Twitter at the 30th of December.

The doctor that hit yesterday has me wanting to call up my old pediatrician and see how he's doing.

So, I'm seeing nowt that qualifies as a q/o*. So, for the time being at least, the masterlist is amended to make Brickell a DNS and Paul Ray (highest listed available sub) is in play for you. Another pick you share with An Fear Beag.

* The pertinent rule is printed below. I'm recognizing the LCFA as reporting her death (the best quality link Banana has thus far gathered) but thinking it's an organization in which she worked and basically reporting on itself, so it isn't the trade press and I'm not minded to use discretion here to recognize it as a significant news source, especially since it'd require a stretching of rule 9 AND a Raymond Hewlitt injunction to gather the points for her.

9 - An "obit" in the context of the Deathrace is any news report in English from a reliable source. Such sources include - but are not limited to - UK national press, UK national broadcast organisations, foreign press and broadcast organisations with an English language thread to their communication, trade press in English, local news organisations reporting in English and coverage in specialist online sites, such as those monitoring the well-being of super-centenarians. Where dispute arises over the qualifying nature of a news source for obit purposes MPFC's decision is final. But he wants fast and furious competition and is generally very amenable to low hanging dead pool fruit of all varieties.

So, let's celebrate Banana's new team member, Utah politician Paul Ray and note that for all the fake tan, smart suit and attention given to his hair he can't quite disguise the fact his teeth are a bit brown

Sidney, smirks at the thought he paid out Deathrace points without Banana or An Fear Beag cashing in.

So, we've gone a week without a winner and - frankly - the last couple of days have dragged a little. Despite some deft dead pooling that's put a pair of players within touching distance of a win (or the unprecedented introduction of a tiebreak if their identical records take them over the line by both scoring on the same pick) the most popular pick of all still soldiers on. Or am I missing summat?

Technically not a QO, but MPFC has already ruled so idk

Yeah, well, politician known internationally I was assuming some major news sources would slip it into the margins and the points were a shoo-in. It's creeping along: https://news.fox-24.com/business/243498.html

and official Vietnamese news source: https://www.vietnamplus.vn/nguyen-pho-thu-tuong-chinh-phu-nguyen-con-tu-tran-o-tuoi-106/767393.vnp

Billy Turner's failure to make the start line has hurt me very badly in this. Has he lingered on another few hours, I have won it by now (both Banana and I would be over the line, but I would be a couple of Joker points ahead). However, as I hadn't researched the team enough, I don't have quite enough really low-hanging fruit to get me over the line quickly. Unless Amir Siraji pops off (went into ICU on on December 26th and then apparently vanished!), then I am relying on one of my many Hail Mary picks to finish it off. The likes of King Constantine, Pele or Leslie Phillips who could die in the morning, or could be here at Christmas.

My prediction is that either Banana wins it in the next few days, or this could drag on for a good few weeks.

Hmmm, I'm thinking there's well-backed talent aplenty on that list - Russell Bishop, Frank Field (who'd haul you and Banana into a tie-break), not sure about the "good few weeks" (and I fucking hope it doesn't!)

Yeah  -but Russell Bishop is on Banana's team! That's why I reckon I am a long shot, unless one of my outside punts comes through.

I see your point, the question offering itself to me is whether those lagging behind you by over 1000 points feel your pain

Dwayne Hickman is a hit and unique pick for me https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/09/obituaries/dwayne-hickman-dead.html

Cheers, that gets you on the board - I have a hunch your late run for glory has Banana bricking it over his chances of taking the title.
