Here goes the failed drive for five:

Gary Burgess (Joker)
Alyson Williams
Bill Steel
Billy Turner (DNS)
Deborah James
Dick Vitale
Don West
Frank Field
George Perez
Isabel Torres
Jana Bennett
Jane Marczewski
Julia Reichert
Russell Bishop
Sister Catherine Wybourne
Susie Steiner
Tom Parker
Tom Weiskopf
Traci Braxton
Vicky Phelan

Sub 1: Pele

Reading this list is always a highlight. It's like the exit poll in an election. This tells me if my team will be ok or not. I have 4 of Spade's picks, including my joker Deborah James, so I'm feeling confident.

Just one thing, why is everyone picking Tom Parker? I thought his tumour stopped growing and he's playing with his band again.

I would love to hear your brain farts on my three teams GC please !

Hm, well the french COVID Bogdanoff. We only know between the lines that he possibly has COVID. But how ill is he exactly? Is he on a ventilator or not? And COVID treatment is making progress, the probability of this death is lower than maybe some other cancer cases.

Don West has brain lymphoma, not glioblastoma, but a different kind of brain cancer. Maybe it's just some spots that have returned, nothing serious? But now, I do think that the cancer must be surprisingly aggressive.

Robert Durst is just very ill in the mind. I could believe he got COVID on purpose just to get out of jail. He's a twisted person.

Edit: Oh sorry, my opinions on your team!!! takes a bit. Next post.

Pretty sure going by earlier posts Amy Price will be DQ.

I certainly hope so, I dropped her on the basis of those posts

What put me off answering the call from on Bogdanoff II was the fact that some French press articles were talking about how shocked he will be waking up from a coma to find his brother dead, which means they must expect him to regain consciousness at some point.

Nice to see a US #1 hits team that has zero crossover with my UK #1 hits team.

(Also the first time I don't have any mutual picks with Hits of 36 Years Ago since 2016, the debut year of both teams.)

I'll be intrigued to see your team.

Yeah, I mainly avoided #1 UK hits this year. The sickest/illest/tour cancelling lot were in the lower echelons of the 1986 Top 30.

I think you will do well.  A nice bit of spread betting or punts alongside some near certain hits.

@Gooseberry Crumble

I do see some familiar names. Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, made me smile. Either I or Spade picked him in the Scavenger Hunt pool (there are two Bonnicis!). He seemed a plausible pick to me.

I see a Home and Away actress. Well, it's the curse isn't it?

Luke Halpin, Ron Ely, Pope Benedict, Duchess of Kent, solid picks, I'd say.

Fred Talbot! Been on my longlist for ages. Phil Creswick, too. But I forgot about him. I think you picked some ripe berries, so to say.

Divine Brown - ha!

I'd be sad to see Liza go, but it's getting time.

So yeah, I know more of your time than I did in previous years, without googling too much. Still many new and interesting names. And I think there'll be quite a few unique hits coming your way. On average maybe one more per team than last year?

Sorry about that, but it goes both ways. I checked back a few years and was surprised he doesn't appear to have ever been picked, then like buses, two at once.

Thank you!

Sounds like I'm on the right trajectory!

I do like your turn of phrase ripe berries and not just because I have an overly naughty and erotic mind!:D

I too will feel very sad when Liza  goes but I think so many of us choosing her is a form of recognition and thus a strange back handed compliment.

Better than being on the list of the missed.

I picked Fred Talbot because  I saw media reports of  him sitting on his own in local pubs were he has lived for a good while but being totally shunned by locals refusing to speak with him or engage in any conversation with him.

The reasons for his pariah status are well known but I think someone like him who seems to crave  interactions socially being totally rejected and clearly looking  totally devastated  by the rejection.. Well I think such situations often don't end well and their decline is often speeded up by being a social outcast.

Thanks for replying.

Happy New Year and thanks for your passionate dedication to this pool and death by numbers.

No need to apologise  I ain't  grumbling it's totally the nature of the game. I am sure I have inadvertently thwarted other people's unique picks both this year and previously!

He is a worthy pick regardless of unique status or not.

The director of Flash  Gordon!!! Absolutely  worthy choice !

Heh, nice one.

He used to be Germany's Simon Cowell for 20 years, then got fired, probably for age reasons, last year.

His most prominent health issue though, is his penis fracture that happened about 20 years ago.

That said, he has bonafide star credentials and Modern Talking is HUGE in Eastern Europe.

Dieter Bohlen was my "he's going to be unique, his strops indicate perhaps mental health issues, type to top himself in a Diva-ish fashion or perhaps accidentally overdose on sleeping pills" pick. Health isn't always physical.

That said, I doubt he'll die and nobody will be more surprised than me if he does.

Most as a block, I presume.  A lot of points to miss out on, and see go to others, should his tumor decide to start killing him again in 2022... because it will eventually

No apology necessary but sorry too. Still, half a loaf is better than none. Strangely enough I think I found her via a convoluted route from an ITC show - UFO.

I’ve been getting a sudden death vibe from Tom Parker recently. Some people even with stable tumours suddenly die from haemorrhage and such like.

To the very end, I hoped I'd get a QO for Philipp Mickenbecker. Alas, it was not meant to be.

14. George Perez

15. Cornelius Price

16. Tom Smith
