Alright, where were we?

Carl Kabat has indeed received the rare New York Times only obit. Well done, Salmon Mousse. It's something Mildred Kornman hasn't yet achieved for the players who have picked her.

Most of the attention however goes to our three big hits of the past weeks: Mikhail Gorbachev, Tom Weiskopf and Bill Turnbull. Those names ensure that almost everybody gets some points now.

But also, there was Lenny Johnrose who actually was a unique hit for Sean, well done!

And this seems to be it? No Helen Grayco, Tim Page, Jerry Allison, etc.... well, if there's one name, just tell me.

Edit: I see, someone had picked Robyn Griggs Wiley, as Robyn Griggs. Interesting! Scoreboard updated.

The scoreboard is a little more crowded at the top now. And the lower ranks get a nice boost almost across the board. Everybody is now in the triple-digits!

Going to be pessimistic and predict my sloppiness in forgetting to pick her up at the trade deadline will be what costs me this game.

Yeah, I know how you feel.... Like you, I'm second behind Banana in AltObits. And in both pools, we scored with Bill Turnbull and Banana didn't. And in both pools we should have picked Robyn Griggs.

Only after it was too late did I discover that I actually had her on my longlist before you mentioned her in the Cup. I had just forgotten about it because I didn't have the time for my annual longlist check last December.

Edit: While I'm at it, my prediction of the Death By Numbers winner this year though, is neither you, nor Banana (nor me), but An Fear Beag. Had the feeling from the start.

I was keeping tabs on her late last year which is why I had her in AltObits, seemed like a guarantee to me. Didn't pick her in anything else though because I thought she'd be a longshot for a QO, but yea I was terribly wrong on that front. My strategies for next year are gonna be mighty different.

And yea I'm not too confident I'm gonna hold the lead here.

The search function tells me that somebody here has picked Lars Vogt - can't find it right now without my Excel sheet. This player can enjoy a Guardian QO:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/sep/06/lars-vogt-royal-northern-sinfonia-trust-and-generosity-michael-odonnell

Edit: By the way, here's another way of saying he died, "he slipped away in hospital".

Second Edit: Seems he was just a sub for Predictor. Well, I'll check again.

Yep, he was my sub in both this and the Hare's deathpool. Thought he was doing well enough to survive the year. Oh well, may he rest in peace.

Out of curiosity, are there any top teams whose jokers haven't died yet? Kinda regret going with Barkan instead of Burgess.

Indeed, let's get this out of the way.

Both Marsha Hunt and Queen Elizabeth II are new hits for this update. Frequently picked, more points for many players. I don't add to the myriad of obituaries here.

HOWEVER, I also belatedly want to add the scores for three names that passed by me. I combed through the names, and stumbled across them... I will do so before the end of the game, again, no name will be left forgotten.

But for now, let's add Claes Oldenburg for doulton. A swedish artist and sculpturist (?) whose work I incidentally stumbled upon in Frankfurt last month. His "inverted tie" is prominently placed there.

Torva Messor gets points for Jill Knight, who is actually Baroness Knight. That name divergence is how it evaded me - though I did add her in the DDP... ah well.

And finally, Joe Monepenny's heavy focus on Asian names pays off here with Chor Yuen, who had also been picked in the DDP and got a qualifying Yahoo obit. I guess, I couldn't imagine anyone picking him here, how wrong I was!

So, these 5 new hits don't change the world, but they move it a little, with JohnKey the highest-ranking player now with new points:

Update time with dramatic news...

The hits: Mildred Kornman, one of the last living silent movie actors, thanks to her being a very young child in the Our Gang movies, gets a late New York Times obit, and CalebH and Predictor rejoice. Mark Souder is a substitution hit for SalmonMousse and Banana. Guess I might have picked him, too! Irene Papas and Jean-Luc Godard are hits, too, as you pointed out above. Plus, we have colourful wrestler Antonio Inoki and the activist Sacheen Littlefeather, who are a nice one-two punch for SalmonMousse and quite a few other players, drol, for example.

The dramatic news is that this one-two punch puts SalmonMousse at the top, and even with a little distance - as we enter the fourth quarter. There's also been quite the rise by Predictor.

We are still about 270 points away from the winning score of last year, by the way.

The only place I had Phil Read:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/20034131/phil-read-motorcyle-world-champion-dead/

You gave me the idea of adding him to my list, @gcreptile.

It's always good to read all your posts. :D

Quick update....

Yes, I had to add Maury Wills for Cpt. Hemlock. Another left-field hit for him...it took some time, but now, they are finally falling one by one. Plus, I also had to correct an obscure error that happened because I had so many Frank Williams' in my excel file... Grand Uncle Bulgaria profits, for one.

In terms of new hits, we had Phil Read for MariNisia and me. Indeed, my posts are always worth reading ;) But there is also Bruno Latour, for drol, msc and DevonDeathTrip.. Plus, there is mother of country Loretta Lynn, hit for quite a few people. And finally, Peter Tobin also goes into the bin here. Many players rejoice.

The Top two are unbothered by all the hits, but the followers are making up some ground.

Indeed, we've got some big ones.

Angela Lansbury, Jerry Lee Lewis, Robbie Coltrane, huge A-list names, points for everyone!

We've also had Tony Brown, the NBA referee. Scoring for quite a few people, an important name... Then there was Pierre Soulages not picked?? Can't believe it, but okay... Jimmy Millar was a unique hit for drol, well done!

As for the scoreboard, the Salmon Mousse / Banana merry-go-round has taken another round. Tony Brown makes a big difference.

Some of your people, like Bernadette Chirac, are alive beyond all expectations. Maybe it still works out.

Knew about Tony Brown just could not imagine him getting a QO.  Still shocked by it.  Hell, Berberian seemed to be a more notable human being and she has not even gotten a local obit.  Congrats to you Banana for having the stones to pick him.
