This thread is fine, all my MOH recipient related posts are here.

Been a while since my previous update, nothing much has happened but WWII's only living recipient Woody Williams has slowed down quite a lot now after his fall in 2021, while Vietnam MOH recipients Doc Ballard and Barney Barnum have only recently become frail. In fact in the most recent Medal of Honor convention, only 7 out of 65 living attended, I might add that most of the active MOH recipients nowadays are Afghanistan/Iraq ones as well, so yeah they are starting to become a dwindling bunch.

Sgt. Maj. John Canley, Medal of Honor recipient for service during the Vietnam War, specifically the Battle of Huếhas died aged 84.

Randy Weaver, protagonist of the Ruby Ridge incident, now being reported dead:

Think I remember this being covered in The Nineties documentary series. One of the many many problems in the US especially in the 1990s involving folks who believed the Government was invading their rights - and of course, guns.

Have a PBS story:

Irish singer Patricia Cahill has reportedly died:

Probably seen her in the kids TV programme A Handful Of Songs back in the day. Didn't quite make the Eurovision finishing second in her only national final. I believe she was on the bill during the bomb threatened Sunday Night At The London Palladium.

Someone at the BBC thought this Kay Mellor lady is famous enough for a push notification to my phone informing me she's died at 71.

Never heard of her, but her obituary credits her for kick starting James Corden's career. No comment necessary. <_<

Genuinely surprised, she's a huge name in British TV screenwriting going back decades. Created Children's Ward which was a huge kids TV show in the early 90s, before writing the acclaimed Band of Gold, a who dunnit set among prostitutes which was considered groundbreaking at the time. She also co-created, wrote and directed much of The Syndicate, and lots of romance type dramas.. Her stuff really isn't my cup of tea but yeah, she's a massive behind the scenes name.

The first series of Band of Gold was pretty good, but it was definitely a case of diminishing returns. I just had to look up Children's Ward as I was certain it was a mid/late 80s programme. I was shocked to see it carried on until 2000 but more so that it started in 89. I was certain I was watching it when I was about 9 or 10. Faulty memory strikes again.

Sir Shane Blewitt, former soldier becoming Treasurer to HM The Queen, death notice: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/257323/blewitt

Died "suddenly" aged...87. *sigh*

A death Is sudden no what the age. Obviously less surprising the older the person is but it’s still sudden.

Probably one for @maryportfuncity, but apparently some dude called Grandmaster Gareth of Misty's Big Adventure from Birmingham (UK) has died:

Did a Peel Session apparently, so not completely off the radar, but hey, if they aren't in the Charts I'm never going to have heard of them.

Anyhow, real name Gareth Jones and according to Discogs also sometime known as Gareth Pennington.

I think there is a limit though.Albeit not at 87 but I would say anyone who is either  seriously ill or well into their 100s counts to a near negligible level.

I could of course go all bad taste and sarcastic here.

However, out of deference to Major Blewitt who was no doubt collecting both handsome miltary and royal service pensions at the taxpayers' expense while still serving as an equerry to Her Majesty, I won't.

That reminds me, I have to submit my meter readings later today...good god.

Definitely one for me - so many significant cultish musicians falling this year that the List of the Lost show is already recorded and edited up to 60 mins (and we only have two hours) - also dropping some tracks into the usual week to week shows (which is what we'll do with Gareth). He has a Bandcamp page, album below has a bizarre range of tags including comedy, lounge, strange, computer game and - ahem - incredibly strange music

Big cult heroes on the Birmingham indie scene, saw them a few times in concert when friends were supporting MBA. Always remember their anti-NME banger "Fashion Parade":

I agree with Crem.  A sudden death is a sudden death.  I'm surprised anyone would dispute this.

A few years ago I took an elderly neighbour into town to do some shopping.  She seemed as fit as a fiddle but died the following day from a brain aneurysm.

I think you could say that the death of someone in extreme old age will never be unexpected, but it can still be sudden.  It's not quite the same thing.

Yeah, my uncle died in his late 80s a decade ago. When the family mentioned this to one of his neighbours, their reaction was: "Oh no, and he was going to fix up my kitchen!"  He remained active and healthy, right up to the day he felt a bit tired, went for a nap, and never woke up.

A proper shock, yes, but still considerably preferable to him suffering from cancer or dementia for years imo.

Amanda Claridge, an archaeologist who brought ancient Rome and its surroundings to life — most notably in her often-cited 1998 book, “Rome: An Oxford Archaeological Guide,” which helped inquisitive visitors understand what they were looking at as they wandered that history-rich city — died on May 5 in London. She was 72.

One of the founding mothers of feminist theology has died. Rosemary Radford Ruether was among the first scholars to think deeply about the role of women in Christianity, to challenge old patriarchies and push for change.

Ruether died Saturday in California at the age of 85 after battling a long illness.
