Not 2 names for the DL Proper, but would easily obit in any pool

Pedro Guerrero- La Dodgers Legend who did a ton of coke in the 80s and 90s and was arrested in 99 for buying 33 pounds of it.   Had a stroke in 2017 and was briefly in a coma and has been dealing with cognitive decline for a while.

Christiane F- The actress/musician  was a heroin addict by age 13 in West Berlin in the 70s ,which became the basis for a best selling novel and Biopic.Has had Hep C since the late 80's and also suffers from Liver cirrohsis. In her last interview back in 2013 expressed she thought she would die soon, and  she had no involvement whatsoever with the 2021 Amazon TV Series about her early life.

28. Ian Hamilton (NEW)

Well then...

Since Hamilton died mere hours after this post, I'd say that Doddie Weir Rolf Harris would be the replacement.

I had this almost Goosberry Crumble-esque feeling that Mikhail Gorbachev and Loretta Lynn would die this year. Everyone had better put Buzz Aldrin and Pope Francis on their lists for 2023.

Lech Walesa should be considered as he was invited to the Queen’s funeral but declined due to poor health.

Patricia Routledge, Thelma Barlow and Joan Plowright feel like three highly Deathlisty names (all born in 1929) who will make their DL debuts in 2023.

People who I would like to see on the Deathlist in 2023

Ayatollah Ali Khomeini- regime facing its biggest challenge in decades as protests continue meanwhile he is increasingly frail and rumoured to have cancer.

Jack Nicholson- rumoured to have dementia though unlikely what isn't a rumour is that he is morbidly obese and getting closer to 90

Alberto Fujimori- Has basically been to hospital 20 times within the last 5 years maybe even more. It feels like the year he'll finally be on the deathlist is the year he'll finally die

Ruth Buzzi- Had a series of strokes earlier this year and has lived with alzheimers for the past 10 according to her husband. Her last update sounds like she has very little time left

Vanessa Redgrave- Lungs have been on only 30% capacity since 2015 very likely on a much lower capacity now since she got covid which has forced her to retire.

Rolf Harris- 93 years old under 24 hour care due to suffering from advanced neck cancer. Interesting to see if he makes it

Chaim Topol- His son revealed that he has had alzheimers for several years now and no longer recognises him

Toby Keith- Country singer with 40 million records under his belt. Currently withdrawing from public appearances due to stomach cancer.

Duke of Kent- Has looked like a corpse for muti years now and it just won't be the deathlist without at least one royal family member on it.

Peter Tobin. Extremely frail health right now. He is a must if he sees out the year

James Earl Jones- In his 90s with diabetes and has been in I'll health since 2018. Publicily announced retirement earlier this year but likely retired earlier given his last two roles use archival recordings.

Can we take some risks for 23? Like some possible yet young death:

Post Malone/Doja Cat (27club),

Elon Musk (controversy death over accident),

Kanye West (controversy death over suicide),

JCVD (overdose)

Mike Tyson (illness)

Putin/Zelensky (obvious)...

Not the whole list but 2/3 to spice it up a little!

1 or 2 artists from this list could have a place in the 50 names :

Elliott Erwitt (1928) because it's a shame to have missed 2 legends of photography Robert Frank in 2019 and William Klein in 2022...

Leontyne Price (1927) may be better than Cleo Laine, because she is one the last major singers after the deaths of Montserrat Caballé or Jessye Norman. And also because when she will die, she will be honoured by Oprah and all afroamerican community

Pierre Soulages (1919), because he is 102 and is one of the last great painter from the last century and also one of the richest.

Jasper Johns (1930), another painter who is the last of pioneers of Pop art.

Yayoi Kusama (1929), even if her dementia seems have no impact on her health, she's not immortal

Seiji Ozawa (1935), one of the most famous conductors but frail, bad health and now Alzheimer

Spoiler

Steve Russell (full name Stephen Russell, called "Slug") who made the first widely distributed videogame Spacewar! in 1962 is also still with us and 83/84 years old. Can't find anything about him from after January 2019

From the "Ideas and Possibilities for 2022" thread, Steve Russell, the programmer and designer of the first widely distributed videogame is still alive, now 84 or 85. Here's a picture of him from 2018

Does anyone expect William Russell to be on the 2023 DL? He will turn 98 next month and undoubtedly is famous enough from his substantial part in early Doctor Who. He is sure to receive a BBC obit when he goes. Does anyone disagree?

He has been healthy for his age in the past but I remember reading somewhere on the forum his health these days does not seem as fantastic as it once was; his public appearances are diminishing.

Cara Delevigne might be worth a punt as is clearly on hard drugs.

Pole vaulter Tim Lobinger, was a forum pool pick atleast around 2019, gravely ill with terminal blood cancer that has spread everywhere:

I had him in my DDP German theme team in 2019, after that he was considered cured.

Now the headline says: " There will be no more healing for me", so he is scheduled for next year's team again.

I certainly think he's famous enough for the list.

He's pretty much retired on age related issues. The recent blu-ray interviews were done years ago when he was able to do interviews. I saw him do one in 2019 and you could see him being quite out of breath after 5 minutes, considerably downhill from 5-10 years earlier.

Hard disagree here, apart from being old there is nothing seemingly wrong with him, and from what I have seen of him recently he looks and sounds about 10-15 years younger than he is. Of course being that age it wouldn't be surprising if he did die but there are definitely people in worse off conditions.

Suprised how Mahathir isn't mentioned more frequently in this thread. Massive Asian controversial political figure and will definitely obit, and the obits will be interesting to read. 98 next July, long history of heart problems starting from the 1980s and survived a heart operation he was not expected to survive in January
