Deathlist Cup 2022

Before Spade rises we'll do a tad of quarter final show and tell, then. The Carlisle Utd vs Exeter City tie, MPFC vs DDT will see the following "talent" martialed by Maryportfuncity. If League Two is any guide (Exeter guaranteed promotion and best placed to secure the championship, Carlisle playing dead rubbers for their final two games having escaped relegation) this lot might run out plucky losers. Who knows, either way, unknown D L Cup territory for this manager and I've had a word with them!

And with the final draw of the tournament, the semi-finals as decided by roly-poly superagent Mino Raiola and cock-memorializing feminist artist Cynthia Plaster Caster:

MFC REALLY wants him some Dick Brewer.  Will that score double points?

Unpaid for thoughts:

-It's a month if not two too early for Haris Ibrahim, just as it is for my pick Larry Garza. But you gotta fill up the roster with someone who has potential and hope the Reaper has some free time.
-Cody Fuller is a great new pick, as is Ric Parnell. That puts me up 6-3 on Joey. I trust that match is going to the wire.

-I read the Jack Thomas thing a week ago.  He's on borrowed time (outlived a '3 months to live' edict), yes, but seems very active on social media and I have 3 or 4 names I haven't presented yet (a tricky/dangerous game) who are also on borrowed time, I'm waiting till they seem to have less of it.  Jack Thomas was one.  Until he goes 2 weeks without posting something, I ain't buying it.  This is precisely why I took a whack with Garza after holding back last month, as he posted something about every 3 days, but hasn't posted in two weeks (neither has his wife).  Piqued my interest enough to give him a go.

-Baruch Shmuel Deutsch looks like a good pick. I tried to figure out how I missed him, and it appears gcreptile has shown me a search term/phrase I can add to the arsenal.
-I've no idea what health issues Alan Dean Foster is supposed to be having and Google isn't being my friend. I'm hoping this is a bad pick.

Ditto Fethullah Gulen.

-Ditto Lester Michael Henry

-Gigi D'Agostino says he has lots of pain and treatment isn't helping and needs a walker but won't name the medical issue (what a twat).  He could be describing Fibromyalgia, Lupus, or whatever.

-Who is Jack Kaiser? @gcreptile

-I'm to the point I don't believe a word a prisoner says about their health, especially when said through the mouth of a viper (lawyer). See: Peter Tobin, Nasser Abu Hamid or my earlier pick Nassar Abu Hmeid or any Nasser Abu for that matter.

-Ditto hunger strikers.

-Who is Mike Henry? @Joey Russ

-Robyn Griggs Wiley is going to die soon.  Her publicist seems to have taken over the posting duties on FB.  But death better happen before June 1, because now she's on everyone's team here on out.  That's the 'tricky/dangerous' part of releasing a solo choice, knowing when to say when.

-Shirlene Pearson in ICU on the 29th but stabilised before morning on the 30th.  I'll stick my neck out and say she is a bad pick.  I knew her story, saw 'stabilised', and passed.

-Why Susie Steiner?  She woke up a few days ago. I also lamented Vicky Phelan as my worst pick ever last month, yet half of some real good Cup players are using her again.  These women are two bad choices (again, sticking my neck out, but calling my shots as I see em).

For Alan Dean Foster it was mentioned near the end of 2020 that he was struggling with cancer. However the reason I picked him was because he used to be doing monthly blogs and recently it quit showing updates (just checked the site and apparently the blog was updated on April 17th but it’s not showing what that blog update is at all). Admittedly, he’s my replacement for Raiola not making the starting line and I could see him living a few more months, but I think he’s on borrowed time.
As for Mike Henry, he’s a longtime Jamaican parliamentarian and there were tweets about him being gravely ill, so given a weak month onto my team he went.

I'll admit I was originally gonna add McMichael to Windy City, but ended up forgetting. So, like what's the deal? I haven't been able to find any update other than the Athletic article which is paywalled.

(I did just find a photo from yesterday, but other than that nothing)

(ok nvm im bad)

Jack Thomas appeared on a gala or something a month ago. He seemed fine. Better than he was supposed to half a year ago.

Jack Kaiser is the old guy with the Wikipedia page. I read at some point last month that he's in hospice, only I actually couldn't find the tweet again in my final update search. I hope I didn't dream it.

And the quarter-finals break like the wind, thanks to the death of Spinal Tap live drummer Ric Parnell. Starting his career off with turn-of-the-70s progsters Atomic Rooster, he had a widespread career that saw him work with jazz-fusioners Nova, session work for Ravi Shankar and even playing the sticks on Toni Basil's "Mickey". But it was his turn as one of Spinal Tap's long line of doomed musicians, a role he then took up for the faux-band's real-life performances, that he'll be best remembered. Eschewing spontaneous human combustion as a death method, Parnell dropping into hospice care late last month placed him on three teams this time out - all of which captained him. Sir Cunto, DDT and Salmon Mousse all turn it up to 6.

Sir Cunto 6 vs Joey Russ 0

I really haven't been able to find any new info on him since last year.  Oddly, haven't stumbled across his social media, to this point.  He's just been my go-to "has months to live" guy for awhile and with Mino Raiola dying and Thomas Kjer Olsen awaking from his coma I was left needing a last minute sub.

Been following her saga for some time and very aware it's now exposed but the way things have turned recently, including a heretofore unheard of lengthy period of complete silence from her gofundme page (last post March 27), I figure it's pull the trigger now or never... besides, was going to be exposed as prominent member of my Windy City team anyway.

Fair enough.  I don’t play Windy City nor have any idea how each DP effects the other.  Anyway, good find!

Just realized Lester Michael Henry and Mike Henry are counted as two separate entries when they are in fact the same person. One unique gone but oh well, wasn’t anticipating an amazing score at all…

In March I rostered the head of the Ukrainian Northern troops (cuz that’s the direction the Ruskies entered from).
In April I rostered the military guy Putin relieved of duty and had jailed, just in case he ‘accidentally died’ in custody (he still might).

I didn’t bother this month but if you can guess the right name it’s a hell of a pick.

COVID deaths are back baby! And we're travelling over to the Muttley of current international geopolitics, Belarus, for our second hit of the round. Stanislav Shushkevich was the first leader of Belarus post-Soviet independence, and was an integral figure in the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Not that Belarus' civil service seemed that bothered, his retirement pension came to a whopping $1.80 a month, meaning he had to resort to a post-political career of lecturing in foreign climes. Joey Russ gets the unique hit here and claws back some ground in his tie.

One of the Deathlist Cup's all-time greatest bedblockers has finally been evicted. George Perez was one of the most influential comic book figures of the past 50 years, popularizing the "multi-universe crossover set piece" that dominates modern-day capeshit at the cinema. He was most associated with Wonder Woman, rebooting the character in the late 1980s and eventually leaving DC as he felt the company wasn't doing enough to promote ol' Diana Prince. Being open about his ongoing battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer, and his lack of enthusiasm for any life-lengthening treatments, Perez was a popular pick  through this tournament and was picked by seven of this round's eight teams: maryportfuncity finds himself in a crisis on one Earth thanks to his refusal to select the inkman, and is now being squonked by DevonDeathTrip. JoeyRuss and Annami go ahead in their ties, and Salmon Mousse remains three points clear.

Sir Cunto 9 vs Joey Russ 10

maryportfuncity 0 vs DevonDeathTrip 9

Captain Hemlock 6 vs Salmon Mousse 9

Annami 6 vs gcreptile 3

My joker Cody Fuller is not dead but on May 9th they decided that there is nothing more they can do, in an update that was posted yesterday:

https://redraiderdugout.com/cody-fuller-the-fight-so-far/ (scrolling down)

So there will be an announcement very soon.

On the other hand, my egyptian actor Abdul Rahman Abu Zahra is on the mend, if I can understand / trust the foreign sources.

Now, Annami has Deborah James, who is younger than Cody Fuller. That could be decisive if none of our differentials score.

Reptile's joker is toast - enjoy the lead until the inevitable q/o (inevitable because the q/o standards hereabouts will allow it when it comes). In the meantime, here's the gofundme page updated to confirm Reptile knows talent when he smells it festering.
