Well, @machotrouts Russell Bishop has died.

I didn't pick him but maybe some did, and I don't think we have reached the official start date yet. What's the ruling? Maybe DI can advise what the rules were?

A lucky break for @Neobrakeon, @Hell, and @Nick, as Russell Bishop – apparently a notorious child murderer and not a result from a "generate your 2000s Mock the Week seat filler name" app – dies too early to be your first Inverse "hit". Commiserations for what must have been wishful thinking for a beloved celebrity. Your three substitutes will be promoted to the #25 slots on your teams. (You can all elect new subs, if you wish.)

This means that Eva Marie Saint is now a fully eligible pick, due to Pope Benedict's contractual clause that there must be at least one Catholic-themed surname on the list. Everyone who has already submitted a team may want to consider modifying it accordingly, particularly if you're one of the many players to pick her as a substitute.

As Saint ascends, the new 51st most popular living pick is a 5-way tie – Bill Cosby, Bernard Cribbins, Deborah James, Nichelle Nichols, and Ozzy Osbourne. You may now pick any one of these 5 names as your substitute, in case anybody else on the list fancies dying in the next 60 hours.

Thanks for the info.

This contingency was covered in post 1.  It's not the first time this has happened.

@machotrouts  I had Eva Marie as my sub, so I'm happy to just move her into the 25 slot and name Deborah James as the new sub.

Oh wait, I'm an idiot.  I didn't pick Bishop.  As you were.

A lucky break for @Neobrakeon, @Hell, and @Nick – here's hoping putting an @ before your usernames is how to tag you, because I do not actually know how to do that (edit: no) – as Russell Bishop, apparently a notorious child murderer and not a result from a "generate your 2000s Mock the Week seat filler name" app, dies too early to be your first Inverse "hit". Commiserations for what must have been wishful thinking for a beloved celebrity. Your three substitutes will be promoted to the #25 slots on your teams. (You can all elect new subs, if you wish.)

This means that Eva Marie Saint is now a fully eligible pick, due to Pope Benedict's contractual clause that he can only appear in this game if there's at least one Catholic-themed surname on the list. Everyone who has already submitted a team may want to consider modifying it accordingly, particularly if you're one of the many players to pick her as a substitute.

And what happens if I deliver my list after someone else dies? I can only put one out of those 5 names in my team?

If we have to cross that bridge, I think the least confusing and arbitrary solution would be to just play with a 54-name pool, though my current preferred system is "Hope Nobody Else Dies".

When there was a tie for 50th I typically just random.org-ed to decide a solitary name. Obviously a bit too late for that now but could be future food for thought.

Since players who delivered their teams in advance can only play one of them as a substitute, in case of a departure they can rearrange their team eventually

Guess I should've waited a bit longer before submitting my list.

I'll just move everyone up a spot and take Ozzy Osbourne as my new substitute.

Didn`t Chef Tim Bilton die in December, 2021? Or is the one on the list another person than him? @machotrouts

Tim Bilton is logged in the DDP as the chef, and chef Tim Bilton is still active on social media as of yesterday (or his ghost is unduly concerned with haunting Instagram). His death does appear to have been reported by a few sites I've never heard of with spelling mistakes in the headlines, but here he is personally denying it.
