Piper Laurie

Recommended Posts

Thought it was time she got her own thread.

Actress and Hollywood royalty Piper Laurie (wiki) turns 90 tomorrow.

A surviving star of Hollywood's Golden era, she was nominated for an Oscar three times (Carrie, Children of a Lesser God, and The Hustler). To later audiences, probably best known for playing the scheming villain Catherine Martell on Twin Peaks during the 1990s.

She had several acting credits in 2018... but none since. Video interview of her here from March 2021. Looks ok for now but worth keeping an eye on.

Picked by 5 teams in the DDP this year.

Can we finally get an answer on the urban legend that De Palma told Laurie that Carrie was a comedy, hence why her performance seems completely out-of-sync with the rest of the movie?

I first saw her and, for that matter, Mel Gibson, in a film called 'Tim'.

Good film.

Piper Laurie played my absolute favourite  character  in Twin Peaks the complex angry and jealous bitch Catherine Martell- and played her brilliantly!

Good choice for a thread.

Twin Peaks and Return to Oz are where I know her from. She was gloriously blotchy in the former.

I have never seen Carrie though I know the story. Is it worth watching?

I take it you mean bitchy not blotchy!:D

In my humble opinion Carrie is definitely worth watching!

Someone’s just edited her Wiki infobox to say she died today. On closer inspection, it looks like they’ve tried to do this three times previously in the last few weeks. Probably just a vandal?

Always click on the IP address if the edit is made by a guest.

In this case, we can see they've tried to kill multiple people off today. So just petty vandalism from a mummy's-basement-bound virgin.

Piper seems to be in pretty rude health.

Sounds very Iainish. He’s got blue balls after giving the Pope an hour to live on Twitter earlier so a killing spree elsewhere was inevitable.

Her death leaves only six remaining nominees from the AFI Greatest Female Stars list: Ann Blyth, Claire Bloom, Mitzi Gaynor, Rita Moreno, Sophia Loren and Margaret O’Brien. Loren was the only one who made the Top 25.

As well as playing Catherine in Twin Peaks, she also, quite brilliantly, played Mr Tojamura as well.

Out of the pages vandalized by this cunt, Piper Laurie, Phyllis Coates and Mark Goddard have died in recent days.

Carroll Baker should really go for a check-up.

Anyway, it's worth mentioning that she was the one who popularized the girl's name Piper (and its variant spelling Pyper).

I believe her parents are the ones to whom credit should bestow.

Wrong. According to Wikipedia her birth name was Rosetta.
