I mean, seriously, only, ONLY in Russia. All these curious deaths of millionaires and billionaires. That headline is as believable as ... I don't know.... something not believable at all.

Death happened back in March but may be of interest

Grandmother of Dasha Astafieva, Playboy Magazine's 55th anniversary Playmate and January 2009, died during the war. Dasha couldn't attend the funeral due to being a volunteer of cooking food for soldiers in Kiev.

Anyhow, seems like the Polish police have decided they have better things to do w/ their time than provide Russian diplomats w/ security (to be fair, that's probably true)

Adreian Payne, a former Michigan State Univ (same school as Magic Johnson, the namesake of the thread) basketball standout and NBA player, has died in a shooting. He was 31.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a shooting at 1:34 a.m. Monday when Payne was identified and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lawrence Dority, 29, was present at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant after homicide detectives interviewed him.

Payne played in 107 NBA games, averaging four points and three rebounds, over four seasons with Atlanta, Minnesota and Orlando. The Hawks drafted him No. 15 overall in 2014, traded him to the Timberwolves, and he averaged 6.7 points and 5.1 rebounds as a potentially promising rookie.

Gerasimov reportedly sacked, at least per Ukraine. In any case, it's undeniable that he was missing from the May 9 parade, which is suspicious in itself - if he hasn't been sacked, it seems the reports of him being injured in Ukraine were accurate, so not good for him either way

Age not known but as someone said he spent atleast five years in the Soviet army in the 1970s judging on the ribbons.

Kadyrovites/Cadaverites are apparently falling like flies in the battles, one reason for it being how they shout the Takbir before shooting... There were an estimated 5000 of them before the war, I wonder how many there are now. The Tushayev guy who commands them (mentioned here a few times) is apparently still alive despite having been rumored dead a few times and is in Luhansk.

And apparently the commander of Kadyrov's so-called "tiktok battalion" (Idrisov) has been killed:

Умер 7 апреля?

1. Message dated May 24 (link provided).

2. The man disappeared during the fighting.  The territory was occupied.  It was hoped that he was captured, possibly injured.

3. I understand this: either during the exchange of prisoners there were reliable witnesses who confirmed the death, or after the exchange of corpses, his body was identified.

The identity of a retired colonel of aviation of the Republic of Belarus, who was shot down in eastern Ukraine, became known

The dead pilot turned out to be Nikolai Markov, born in 1955, a native of the Novgorod region of the Russian Federation, a graduate of the Chernigov Higher Military Aviation Pilot School, graduated in 1976. He served in the USSR Air Force in Kazakhstan, East Germany, in Belarusian Postavy and Lida, where he was a regiment navigator. Worked in Africa. According to the information that Markov published on his page on the My World social network, he indicated Lida as his hometown. And in one of the African countries, he got a house and a second family.

How did a 67-year-old military pensioner end up on the Ukrainian front?  Russian aviators explain this by the lack of pilots in the Russian Aerospace Forces and report that Markov flew "from some kind of PMC" (private military company).

Information about the death of the pilot appeared on May 12.  The Su-25 attack aircraft was shot down at an altitude of 1,500 meters, presumably from the Soviet S-125 anti-aircraft missile system over the city of Popasna (Luhansk region, Ukraine).  During the pair flight, Markov was the wingman, the leading commander is called the "retired general" 63-year-old Kanamat Botashev, who died in the same place over Popasna 10 days later - on May 22 from a hit by a Stinge.

Markov was buried on May 17 at the New Cemetery in the city of Lida.  State media did not report the incident.

News from 05.19.22. The Donetsk Philharmonic says goodbye to Stanislav Slutsky, a talented cellist, artist of the Prokofiev Symphony Orchestra, the Baroque Ensemble of Early Music and the Avanti Ensemble of Soloists.

According to the press service of the Philharmonic, the musician died at the front while fulfilling his duty to protect Donbass.  Stanislav is survived by his wife and two children.

https://www.mk-donbass.ru/incident/2022/05/19/na-fronte-pogib-doneckiy-violonchelist-stanislav-sluckiy.html

News from 05.27.22. The fate of the artist is quite typical: the men of the Philharmonic were supposedly gathered for filming, a team from the military registration and enlistment office was waiting for them there, and all of them instantly became volunteers and were thrown into a meat grinder. In addition to Slutsky, at least two Philharmonic musicians were killed, opera theater artists were killed, and many were injured.

In fact, the men of the DPR-LPR, regardless of profession, are today a total resource from which they generously scoop to justify the level of hostilities. Formally, a foreign jurisdiction is a very convenient format for large-scale and literally total mobilization, when people are thrown into a meat grinder. In Russia, they don’t talk about it and don’t write about it, and therefore everything is in perfect order. The new order does not need musicians. In fact, he doesn't need anyone. You need cannon fodder.

"The evacuation from the Lugansk region has been officially stopped. The Rashists fired at a car that was going to pick up people. A French journalist was killed," said Serhiy Gaidai, head of the Luhansk regional military administration.

According to Gaidai, a Ukrainian armored evacuation vehicle was driving to pick up 10 people from the region and came under artillery fire.

Shell fragments pierced the car's armor, and an accredited French journalist was mortally wounded in the neck while reporting on the evacuation. A patrol policeman who was with him was saved by a helmet.

Gaidai's telegram channel published photos of the deceased journalist next to the shelled car. Reuters reports that the head of the region provided a snapshot of his press card.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed reports that French journalist Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff had died near Severodonetsk.

“Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff went to Ukraine to show the world the realities of war. He was mortally wounded while riding on a humanitarian bus with civilians fleeing Russian bombing,” Macron wrote.

The commander of the 58th army of the Russian occupiers, General Mikhail Zusko, has probably been arrested.

This was announced by military journalist Andrei Tsaplienko, who published a fragment of the audio interception of the occupiers.

During the conversation, the invader tells the interlocutor that Zusko allegedly surrendered the positions of the invaders near Nikolaev. They were defeated, and the attack on the city was blocked.

Tsaplienko notes that his Ukrainian origin influenced the decision to arrest Zusko. The general who gave orders to cover peaceful Ukrainian cities and villages massed with fire was born in Volhynia.
