47. Sly Stone

Recommended Posts

Sly Stone turns 80 next year. He was one of the biggest up and coming stars in the musical world until his drug addiction got in the way of his career. His excesses surpassed that of even Keith Richards and Ozzy Osbourne.

Note to mods. This is the last thread I'll be making today. Just trying to inject some life into this place by starting a couple of threads with big and interesting names.

Good call for a thread. I mentioned Sly as a possible candidate for 2022 in December, but he doesn't seem to be a name getting much traction here.

He's had years of financial mismanagement and was reported to be homeless in 2011. That same year he entered rehab for cocaine addiction.

That he's made it this far seems quite remarkable.

My main recollection of Sly Stone in recent years was I'm sure he was told if he didn't stop drinking he wouldn't see seventy...

Good singer, though obviously his big hit is the one I'm most familiar with.

I’m afraid that’s like trying CPR on a fried rasher of bacon.

Christ he's not long for this world if he's aging 4 years in one year.

This thread is for:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sly_Stone

American musician of Sly and the Family Stone fame. Not Sylvester Stallone.

This whole time I thought calling Sylvester Stallone a 60s music legend was the whole joke!

So many music octogenaries in recent years have been a bit wow.

Sly Stone's octogenary was an utter how the FUCK did he make it.
