Kill or Save: UK No. 1-hits of the 70s

The slightly annoying thing IMO with double A-sides in this game is that I Don’t Want To Talk About It is marvellous and worthy of the grand final, whereas The First Cut Is The Deepest is just 4 minutes of meh.

It would be unfair to everyone else if the two songs were rated separately. Since Rod Stewart only had one No.1 hit, albeit with a double A-side, it can only be counted as one song. How many songs did Demis Roussous' Phenomenon EP have? Just imagine if the songs were all listed separately...

I’m not saying they should be, I’m just saying it’s a personal gripe of mine and the reason for me not being prepared to give it any points. If anything it makes the scoring more interesting as people weigh up whether it’s worth propping up one crap song to save a great one.

It's a bit meaningless really.  All the other singles had two sides, the only difference is that in the case of a "double A side" both songs are named.

The B side of Maggie May was Reason To Believe, which I greatly prefer.

Just signed in to give Elton a helping hand.

I'd like to remind those who voted him down, that he survived many younger singers, who were ahead of him in the charts.

I hope that this trend will continue.

pssssst Its December.

No problem. I would be also satisfied, if he survives your favorite singers in January, February or in the year 2032.

Just a small question here, what the fuck are you on about?

What in the name of all that is holy does that have to do with how good a song is?

We've already had one bout of a person voting for versions that aren't even listed - now this?

As a fan of many Elton John songs, I am completely lost here.

Making jokes about dead VIPs on Deathlist is now a no-go?

Btw: Didn't you post in the Kanye West thread that mental illness is no excuse for Nazi views?

I agree whole-heartedly, but at the same time people in this thread here suck up to David Bowie, whose mother was a a follower of Oswald Mosley, who collected Nazi memorabilia (confiscated in 1976 by the Russians) and who said that Britain was ready for a new Hitler.

And nobody who reads my post should forget, that Bowie's groupie Lori Maddox was fourteen when he asked her to sleep with him, and fifteen when she did.

Prince Andrew's Virginia was seventeen.

If anything you have made it a lot less clear as to what the fuck you’re on about, but as En Passant nodded to, a bit clearer as to what the fuck you’re on.

There we all are, merrily getting on with the game and having some chat about music, and all of a sudden you come in, say something about loads of people dying before Elton John (who I’m a huge fan of btw), then you bring up Nazis and noncery. Do you understand why one might be forgiven for thinking you’re off your fucking trolley?

Half the girls in my class at school were shagging like rabbits at 14 and 15.    It's normal, always has been, always will be.

I made a harmless joke about Elton surviving younger celebrities, and some deathlisters - who are probably posting right now on the Pele -thread, salivating for his death - got very angry and accused me on being on drugs or whatever.

Since I stumbled over TQR's posting on the Kanye- thread a while ago, I reminded him of the fact, that David Bowie, who had supremacist views, has many fans on this thread.

What is there to misunderstand? I'm not here to spoil the fun for others.

Well, I didn't understand that you were on about dead people.  When you said EJ had survived "younger singers" I thought you were on topic and referring to survival in the current competition.

I've no idea why you wanted to bring dead celebrities into it. And what joke?  There wasn't anything funny about it, whichever way it was taken.

After that brief descent into crazy, if I can bring us back to business...

68 Baccara – Yes Sir, I can boogie

63 Donna Summer - I Feel Love

61 Rod Stewart – I don't want to talk about it / The first cut is the deepest -6

54 ABBA – Knowing me, knowing you

44 ABBA - The Name of the Game +2

42 ABBA - Fernando +2

31 ABBA - Mamma Mia

30.The Four Seasons – December 1963 (Oh, what a night)

26 Hot Chocolate – So you win again

20 Elton John & Kiki Dee- Don`t go breaking my heart

15 ABBA - Dancing Queen

Trying to put Rod back in his place. I don't mind the song, but I prefer others. I suspect there's enough love in here to keep him safe anyway, but I'll see if I can do something to get 3 ABBA songs through...
