I will piggyback along with BP's hit named above and add a shout for Ben Ferencs' death (April 7) to be added to both our scores.  Hey, nice choices, BP!     -WF

Is there any limit to the number of hits you can get in a span of 5 days?  :D  Then I'll add Al Jaffee to my growing list.

As we are now into the second quarter of the year, its time for an update. I have googled all the names on the masterlist to see if any hits have been missed (well since you lazy buggers won't keep an eye on your own teams, someone has to do it ).

Two picks died prior to the last update on 13th March:

17th February: Stella Stevens. A hit for @Charles De Gaulle and @WhoamI

3rd March: Jaak Lipso. A debut hit for @chel.

In addition, It discovered that actress Vilma Hollingbery, a pick for @YorkshireBanker, died before the start of the game. Well before the start in fact - September 11th 2021. First sub Lynne Reid Banks moves up to take the place on the team.

The following have all snuffed it since the last update, to give some unwanted early points to their pickers.

13th March: Dick Fosbury

23rd March: Peter Shelley

24th March: Gordon Moore

26th March: Nikolai Dupak

28th March: Ryiuchi Sakamoto

31st March: Wan Heifeng

3rd April: Nigel Lawson

5th April: Bill Butler

6th April: Nora Forster

7th April: Ben Ferencs

10th April: Al Jaffee.

3 hits in 5 days, including an Al Jaffee joker sends @Wormfarmerhurtling up the table and into the lead, with @BuffaloPhiladding 2 more hits to the total to move into second.

5 players, @chel, @nantonian2013@time, @TQRand @WhoamIall get a debut hit to enter the race properly. 10 players are still to get off the mark.. Here is the top 6, which consists of everyone who has attained 200 points so far. The full scoreboard is on Page 1.

Wormfarmer (393 points) 4 hits

[AL Jaffee*, Ben Ferencs, Bill Butler, Gianluca Vialli]

Buffalo Phil (239 points) 5 hits

[Ben Ferencs, Bill Butler, Gianluca Vialli, Hazel McCallion, Lucille Randon]

Tracey (223 points) 4 hits

[AL Jaffee, Gordon Moore, Miiko Taka, Ted Lerner]

JoeMoneypenny (210 points) 3 hits

[Hsing Yun, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Wan Haifeng]

Dying Probably (204 points) 3 hits

[Betty Boothroyd, Hazel McCallion*, Nigel Lawson]

Arghton (204 points) 5 hits

[Gianluca Vialli, Ivan Silayev*, Otis Taylor, Rafiq Nishonov, Tim Lobinger)

I'm assuming this for Kenneth McAlpine is good enough for here: https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/single-seaters/f1/kenneth-mcalpine-oldest-surviving-f1-driver-dies/

Not for much else mind.

You're welcome.

Ken Archer, Australian Test Cricketer, has died aged 95. A hit for me

FYI - Faith Thomas, Australia's First Aboriginal Woman Test Cricketer died the day after. Sadly I thought she had died previously......

Thanks Book. You are spared abuse by the fact that I literally checked her name on 11th and there was nothing on her passing at that stage.

Only last week did I realize that I actually picked Chris Snow twice. But well, it's just 24 players for me then.

6 May 2023 is Wikipedia's stated death date for Menahem Pressler, 125 days from January 1, thus 125 points for me.

Thanks for the heads up TM. No real need to work out the points- my spreadsheet does that automatically, although I do appreciate the effort!

While I am here, lets have a wee update. A quick glance through the masterlist shows me that the following folk have carked it since the last update. Let me know if I have missed anyone.

A few more hits to mention over the past couple of weeks:

5th May: Siiri Rantanen

7th May: Don January

9th May: Denny Crum

11th May: Guido Gorgatti

17th May: "Superstar" Billy Graham

That's all I have, but let me know if you come across any more.

The big winner, if there can be one at this time of year, is @BuffaloPhilwho is up into second place, but has taken 6 hits to get there. Down at the bottom, 9 players have yet to join the race, with illustrious names such as @Bibliogryphon @John Key @msc, and @Pedro67all waiting on a first hit. Loads and loads of time for that in this game!

Top 5 is as follows, full scoreboard is on page 1

Wormfarmer (393 points) 4 hits

[AL Jaffee*, Ben Ferencs, Bill Butler, Gianluca Vialli]

Buffalo Phil (369 points) 6 hits

[Ben Ferencs, Bill Butler, Gianluca Vialli, Guido Gorgatti, Hazel McCallion, Lucille Randon]

Top 5 is as follows:

It all seems to have gone very quiet around here. Unless of course a whole heap of obscure picks have carked it, but you scamps have not informed me! I will be doing my quarterly google search of all the names at the end of the month, but in the meantime please be a dear and check you own teams.

These are the only names I have since the last update:

10th May: Rolf Harris

21st May: Ed Ames

24th May: Tina Turner

Rolf Harris was, of course, the big hit with 17 teams selecting the antipodean nonce. However,  his death has actually bugger all effect on the top of the scoreboard, as the highest ranked player to have chosen him was @The Old Cremin 20th place. Crem moves up to 6th as a result. Of more significance, is the fact the @theoldladyalso selected Tina Turner to go with her Harris hit, to ascend into 3rd place. Somewhat fittingly, Rolf Harris's demise also sees @Toastand @Hellenter the top 10.

@John Keygets a first hit of the game with Harris, to finally enter the race properly, leaving only 8 players hiding in the showers, hoping the sports teacher won't notice.

The top 10 is as follows - full scoreboard as always is on Page 1.

Buffalo Phil (507 points) 7 hits

[Ben Ferencs, Bill Butler, Gianluca Vialli, Guido Gorgatti, Hazel McCallion, Lucille Randon, Tim Keller]

An Fear Beag (439 points) 6 hits

[Gianluca Vialli, Lucille Randon, Mary Quant, Nigel Lawson, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Tim Keller]

The Old Lady (435 points) 5 hits

[Betty Boothroyd, Gianluca Vialli, Mary Quant, Rolf Harris, Tina Turner]

Wormfarmer (393 points) 4 hits

[AL Jaffee*, Ben Ferencs, Bill Butler, Gianluca Vialli]

Death Impends (358 points) 4 hits

[Bert I Gordon, Billy Graham, Ed Ames, Lucille Randon]

The Old Crem (322 points) 5 hits

[Frank McGarvey, Gianluca Vialli, Mary Quant, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto]

Dying Probably (318 points) 4 hits

[Betty Boothroyd, Harry Belafonte, Hazel McCallion*, Nigel Lawson]

Salmon Mousse (300 points) 6 hits

[Frank McGarvey, Gianluca Vialli, Denny Crum, Michael Lehrer, Natalie Fornasier, Tim Keller]

Toast (291 points) 6 hits

[Fay Weldon, Gianluca Vialli, Just Fontaine, King Constantine, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto]

Hell (286 points) 4 hits

[Chaim Topol, Gianluca Vialli, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto]
