I haven't received any abusive messages, so I'm guessing it's not Zorders.

Christian Eriksen is still alive after having basically the exact same thing happen to him at the Euros and he's back to playing for Denmark with a device/pacemaker. Though if Damar Hamlin lives he probably won't ever play again given how physical American Football is.

I'm good friends with people in Cardiology so when I have a chance this week i'll try and talk to them about it.

Quite different things. Eriksen (Playing right now as it happens) has a heart condition which until then he didn’t know about  and went into cardiac arrest. Hamlin was hit in the chest and his heart then sttopped. He could have major damage to that region which n could make recovery challenging. Eriksen was also conscious as soon as he was revived while Hamlin is still unconscious.

reminds me of an incident that happened in the NHL a few years ago: Chris Pronger took a slapshot to the chest and collapsed shortly after (warning).
he later explains what happens here (to save a click: it's called 'commotio cordis' his heart skipped a single beat, resulting in less oxygen being pumped throughout his body and eventually causing him to pass out). he went on to play hockey for another 14 years.

like you say though, Hamlin is unconscious so it's obviously more severe. here's hoping he makes a full recovery.

Just mentioned on the ESPN broadcast of Lakers-Heat, former St. John's men's college basketball coach Lou Carnesecca turns 98 tomorrow.  Mark Jackson brought him up because that was his college coach and he's broadcasting the game.  Jackson brought him up in a happy, upbeat way, so I don't know that he's in imminent danger.  Still, the guy's about to be 98.
