Reference here to the reported death of British director and producer Bruce Gowers, probably best known for directing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody video:

Obviously I'd prefer some corroboration from somewhere, but this would be huge news - worked with various music stars on their videos and concert specials, directed Whose Line Is It Anyway and Live 8 for TV.

Is there a thread for Directors, editors and the such (Behind the Camera folks), because a lot of those deaths get reported here. If there isn't such a thread I would like to put forward the idea of having one.

It's quietened down all of a sudden. The reaper must have gone on a vacation.

Quietened?  Is that a Brit word?

From the OED:

quieten, v.

Pronunciation:

Brit. /ˈkwʌɪətn/ U.S. /ˈkwaɪətn/
Forms:  1700s– quieten; also Scottish 1800s– quaten, 1900s– kwaten, 1900s– quaieten
Frequency (in current use)
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: quiet adj., -en suffix5.
Etymology: < quiet adj. + -en suffix5. Compare earlier quiet v.

 1. transitive. To make quiet (in various senses); to calm, to pacify. Also with down.

1759—1998

 2. intransitive. To become quiet (in various senses). Frequently with down.

1890—2003

This would be a good time to post the definition of ‘butthurt’.

Marshall Tucker, who in 1972 rented out an old warehouse to a new musical group who showed their appreciation by naming themselves The Marshall Tucker Band, has died. He was 99.  Tucker was a piano tuner by trade. He was blind, but pitch perfect. The Marshall Tucker Band had seven U.S. Hot 100 hits and three more that bubbled under. Their biggest American hit was 'Heard it in a Love Song', which hit #14.

Is this the only example of a band named after someone who was not a band member?

Duran Duran were famously named after a character in Barbarella.

The Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand was formed in 2002, 88 years after its namesake, Archduke Franz-Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary, whose assassination is widely believed to be a major contributing factor to World War One, was shot.

All those are a bit of a stretch though.  A fancifully misspelled name, a fictional character, an unspecific surname, and a historical character.  You wouldn't assume any of those were band members, whereas you would probably think Marshall Tucker was a member of the eponymous band.
