Kill or Save: UK No.1-hits of the 80s

Limahl was one of the iconic early 80s singers (and haircuts) like Nik Kershaw and Nick Heyward. Although Kajagoogoo (too shy) was a one-hit wonder, he had his own hit "Never ending Story" which was recently featured on Stranger Things. So he became a one-hit wonder twice.

I was going to save the downvoting on Bonnie until later, but too many are upvoting her so it's time to balance that a bit.

It's bombastic and overblown.

As I mentioned upthread - even Jim Steinman who wrote it thought as much and that from the man who wrote all of Meatloafs Bat out of Hell which wasn't exactly notable for its restrained nature.

Funnily enough I saw both performers (Limahl and Nik Kershaw) live last Saturday. They performed alongside 9 other acts at an 80s event ("Die 80er Live"): Each act plays their greatest hits within about 30 minutes and thus has the opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience again.

F.R. David was the first act, we didn't really notice him because we were greeting our friends we had an appointment with there.

I liked Limahl and Nik Kershaw. The same goes for Howard Jones. Solid performances of their big hits. And Limahl is somehow still totally young at heart.

Holly Johnson was fantastic and rightly the top act of the night! Just seeing him live - the show was worth it for that! And I also really liked Gazebo and Cutting Crew, which surprised me a lot. Both singers were really good and put on a great (short) show.

Unfortunately, Sandra (German pop queen of the 80s) did not sing live.

Unfortunately, Samantha Fox (international pop queen of the 80s) sang live.

And my two personal disappointments were Marc Almond and Alphaville. They interpreted their big hits very freely and overdid it. Sorry, I don't want to hear it, I want to hear the originals!

But all in all, the event was a lot of fun, especially when you take part and celebrate with a larger group!

I just listened to the Paul Young track: didn't hate it, but it's kinda tedious, and I cannot imagine a circumstance where I will hear that song ever again. So it had to go.

I like Bowie but he didn't even like that song:
If David Bowie had one regret about the 1980s, it would have been recording “Let's Dance.” He enjoyed the success that all his other music gave him, but he didn't like what that one tune and its accompanying album did to his image and his career.

If he was embarrassed about the whole Let's Dance / China Girl / Ricochet era, then I can understand why. Dull, plodding songs, especially when compared to the Ziggy or Hunky Dory era. It seems like at some point he forgot how to write good songs.
