Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

Recommended Posts

I love the 2023 list.

A few strange picks, DL will probably beat me again, but hey.

I'm still shocked at Van Dyke at number 1. My money would have been on Jimmy Carter. Alan Alda seems like a strange addition. Yes, he has Parkinsons but he's very active and he's only in his 80's not his 90's.

As long as they don't pick Mohamed Al-Fayed, I'm fine with it.

Ok

Just now, The Doctor said:

No Vialli and no Napolitano... So sad about it.

I’ll be the first to say it.

Rolf Harris - Paedophile

Laughed harder than I should have at the bluntness of this description.

Other thoughts: Pleased to see Lear made the list, would have thought he isn't enough of a UK name. Alda and Dickinson seem like strange additions. I'm a little skeptical about Hurd and Kaczynski being dropped. Mildly surprised they kept Faithfull and Cheney.

Will probably do a longer review of the list later because I simply like writing lists, but at the moment I'm feeling a similar finish to this year. ~15 or so.

Most of the people they dropped should of stayed.

Alagiah, Akihito, Attenborough, Whale and even Kaczynski not on, interesting.

Alagiah and Kaczynski should've 1000% been on, Whale quite probably, and Akihito and Attenborough are going to go within the next few years chances are, so they make sense to drop now I suppose but at their age, a cold can cause the end.

Edit: and no Vialli? DL Committee, jesus H.

Bit of a boring Top 10.

I like that they brought Woodward, Nelson, Nolan and Ono back. Harris, Sakamoto and Rollins are decent additions. I'm surprised Roberta Flack wasn't included.

Whale, Kaczynski and Hurd are risky drops, I also think Attenborough should've been kept. Pleased they dropped Akihito, but Cheney making it again is a bit baffling.

Well, at least Woodward is back on there.

Dropping Whale is just plain stupidity on the committees part. After two big names just dying after being taken off the list you would have thought the committee would be more cautious. Not including Vialli is also a very unwise move IMHO.

No Alagiah seems incredibly risky also.

Some  comparatively silly names kept on such as Cheney considering who has been dropped.

Rollins and Sakamoto are brilliant calls.

Taylor is a good pick also.

I don’t get it. Where are Whale, Chirac, Vialli, Alagiah, Minnelli, Farrakhan. They seem quite tired of doing it, it seems…

Would only argue with dropping Whale and Hurd from that list.
