Nut Rocker is a fine song, but as I said before I'd just rather listen to the ELP version, or the Tchaikovsky original tbh.

 

Also, I remember that some users were downvoting cover versions for being pointless/unnecessary, but they don't do it for Nut Rocker just because it's an instrumental?

That said, I agree with you. The best two Beatles songs have gone, the best Elvis song is riding a wave downwards with one of the worst set to survive and we've got two harmless but essentially novelty instrumentals in the top 3, both of which are worse than some of the Shadows ones which have gone. Very surprised at what we look likely to end up with as qualifiers. They'll be first out come the Final.

The only question anybody should be asking themselves is “Do I prefer X over Y”, where X and Y are both contenders in the relevant list. Other variables, such as it being a cover version, shouldn’t enter into the equation (unless of course both versions are in the list).

All of these (bar Nut Rocker) were in the house when I was a kid, along with Stranger On The Shore which will feature in the No 2s.   Quite striking how popular instrumentals were at that time.
