Derby Dead Pool 2024

Recommended Posts

Yes, deadpoolers, it’s this time again. 2023 has had departures from as sad as Tina Turner to as welcomed as Henry Kissinger, but there’s still two constants in this world: The Derby Dead Pool, and us laughing at whichever poor souls fall for Superstar Billy Graham again.

Erm, okay, one constant.

For 2024, @Banana and I are continuing in our previous posts. As for @gcreptile's announced retirement. We all can agree he has done a bang up job for the past four years entering the celeb deaths and sorting out bugs while never losing his trademark zen. As it stands he is still in talks with a potential successor and will remain on the committee for at least another month or so to assure a smooth transition, and we will keep you updated as that progresses.

Dear Jimmy - either die in the next week, or go all the way to 2024 - love, Banana

THE RULES remain the same as they have for the past few years. Be warned – Ruth Langsford mother falls afoul of our FFBI criteria.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:

The spreadsheet method of entry that began in 2021 remains in service. The 2024 spreadsheet, identical to the 2023 one in all but filename, can be found here. It is heavily recommended to use the spreadsheet as means of entry to reduce Banana's workload as much as possible.

If you are absolutely unable to work with the Excel spreadsheet, still make sure to recheck GUN's DDP entry guide thread from 2020 to make the formatting of your email as smooth as possible.

And...we're off!

I want to thank the committee again for the hard work they put in each year. This is the absolute greatest Dead Pool. I have some picks for 2024, who if they get a QO, will strain @Death Impends creativity in writing a DDP obit. :P

Awesome, as someone struggling to raise this year's performance level to mediocre, I'm still in for another go in 2024!

This one looks fun to play. I'm a bit unclear on the scoring however. What qualifies as a "Party Pooper" and are there any bonuses for a themed team? The link to the scoring rules comes up empty https://www.derbydeadpool.co.uk/derby-dead-pool-2023-entries-now-open/

It's quite clear on who qualifies, and what qualifying criteria are, as well as how to enter the contest. Not so much on the scoring system other than drop 40 as well as the point of themed teams.

Sorry, scoring is at the top of the scoreboard.  Party pooper bonus is for people who die on their birthday or Christmas Day.

Theme teams are just for fun really. There is a separate scoreboard for them. Although they are not excluded from the main scoreboard afaik.

Great stuff.

However we (well more correctly the Derby Dead Pool) have a funding issue.

Fot the last 4 (?) years I have been taking advantage of my company’s lax credit card controls to allow the website hosting fees to go through my work - it’s about £25/‘month so £300 a year (roughly it varies month to month not sure why).

Unfortunately we’re in the middle of a crackdown due to some idiot taking the piss on a grand scale and so I can’t get away with this any more.

So I need to stop the payment - question is what happens then?

Sorry, your current sponsor, GUN

I'll be entering again and wish luck to those running this pool. You do an amazing job.

Edit - I've actually entered two teams this year.

Update - Norman Lear was a joker in one of my teams. Do I send you an email about who I want as replacement joker now?

I’m sure a more permanent solution could be found long term but for next year if you need to set up a pot online somewhere I’m sure we could all chip in something.

Yes, go ahead. Please just specify your team name in the email.

For reference for all other players, I will do my best to get into contact with you if your joker dies prematurely for a replacement. If I do not receive any response the next highest pick becomes your joker.

Out of interest what happens if more than 3 of your picks die before the game starts? I lost 2 before the game started in January hours after I entered on the 29th.

Can I have a point clarified please?

I know the rues allow QOs from
https://uk.news.yahoo.com

What about

https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/

Does this qualify as a QO site?

Thanks

All uk.(whatever).yahoo.com links can be changed to uk.news.yahoo.com (to my knowledge) so any uk.(whatever).yahoo.com link should be acceptable.

Same thing happens as with premature joker deaths. I will get in contact with any teams that need replacements in the off chance that 4 or more members perish prematurely. This is why it is strongly urged to send in 3 subs.

They’ve volunteered to pay the hosting fees.

Added a third team to my roster this year (mostly for the hell of it and to see how stupid a team I can make), consisting of literally just the first people to pop up on my Twitter front page. Any hit would be a big success for this one to be honest.

They're all 3 in.
