I agree with @msc a few posts above that James Whale and Linda Nolan can't go on forever with terminal cancer. Sonny Rollins "how the hell is he still alive with his pulmonary fibrosis condition?" Tom Baker, Dennis Skinner, Buzz Aldrin, Robert Wagner (COPD), Pete Murray and Robert Duvall are all in their 90s and at this point in their lives a fall or common cold could finish them off. I know all this, but due to the current score on the list there are 21 names that have to be dropped and I only named 15 candidates for now, Skinner and Rollins seem to be staying strong or resistant and I think maybe both could live to be 95, but it would still be very risky, but speaking of other candidates Pete Murray I see that he is still doing well, as is Baker, Aldrin, Wagner, etc, it would be much riskier to drop Laine, Le Pen, Baxter, Castro, Greenspan, Tebbit, Marcos , Turner, Brooks or Woodward instead of them. I also think Desmond Morris should be dropped and brought back in 2026, I think he could live to be 98, and replace Fritzl for Sidney Cooke.
Lafaucheuse 4,029 Posted October 5 Fritzl, Turner, Brokaw, Blix, Cheney, Stone, Baker, Bugner, maybe Routledge (and even Pope Francis ?) could be dropped imho Along with the obvious Walters
livingbygrace 310 Posted October 5 I do not envy the people that have to make the decisions of the cuts if they have to cut almost 20 people. Some cuts could be easier and more obvious but others might be hard cuts. Though anyone they cut that happens to die there is going to be someone saying they should not have been cut. The only grace is even if that happens hopefully their replacements will be good choices as well
Lafaucheuse 4,029 Posted October 5 I get that the 25 new candidate rule is useful but it’s quite frustrating, 21 candidates to drop is a huge amount and I expect several drops to die next year. Therefore the score of a list is determined by how good the previous list has been which is frustrating. Maybe 10 new candidates is enough ?
The Old Crem 3,576 Posted October 5 It will take the list a few years to recover from how this year has been.

Still not beyond the realms of possibility we get 3 or 4 hits before the end of the year Most obvious case is Carter.100 in hospice and looks like he has already died. There is also there is Esther Rantzen who has only been brought extra time by a drug trial.Normally would be long gone. Then there is Starmer_Smith who has been in the final stage of Alzheimers for at least 3 years and looked ghastly in 2021. Roberta Flack surviving 2 years with ALS and a previous stroke seems bordering on miraculous. Sonny Rollins has had terminal fibrosis for many years far longer than you would expect for anyone let alone a 94 year old. Joanne Woodward has had alzheimers for 17 years and has been in the advanced stage for years. James Whale should be dead by now but looks sounds and seems better than he has for about 3 years .I would even drop him next year of I was the committee given how many drops are needed. Linda Nolan.Has had metastatic cancer for seven years with multiple sights of spread and other complications.Still think she should be carried over next year. Chomsky is by all accounts extremely frail and it seems as though he should be long gone by now. Ted Turner has had lewy body dementia for years and has disappeared from public view since revealing his dementia in 2018. Tom Baker was hospitalised last year and Is as gaunt as you can get but is still out and about.

If I remember correctly he has just been brought to the forum attention last year because of his emaciated look but expect that (and his hospitalization which I never heard off ?) he doesn’t seem at death door, still outside recently and his health seems greatly exagerated id you want my opinion. He’s just a forum favorite

He’s just a forum favorite I agree that he is a drop, he's still very active. If I remember rightly the hospitalisation was noted by someone who went up to him in the street for a photo and he told them that he'd just been in hospital. I don't think it was anything serious if he was out and about not long after.
msc 18,418 Posted October 5 In a normal year Tom would stay on the list as a forum favourite frail nonagenarian. But this year has been an abject disaster for the list so I'd expect most of those (see also Scales and Rollins and maybe even Woodward) to drop.

He’s just a forum favorite He looks slightly less emaciated and is still able to get out and about so yeah most likely not at deaths door. Would normally advocate keeping him on the list as he still looks gaunt and frail but yeah he should be dropped next year unless there is an avalanche of deaths before New Years Eve. Scales I think will have to be dropped but after so many appearances reckon the committee may keep her on.Rollins and Woodward would be big mistakes to drop in my humble opinion even given the scale of the cull that will be needed. Scales is still doing voice acting work and going on cruises so should be dropped in this current climate.

Kenneth Grange, Roger Corman, Silvio Santos, Gena Rowlands, Maggie Smith, Tin Oo and Donald Sutherland could be considered a DL miss?

I do not necessarily see these as misses. They are perhaps picks that were good possibilities of death, and maybe they even looked into those people but in the end decided on others for their lineup instead. Honestly they can't fit everyone who is in their 90s or is sick. There is just not enough spots on the list. In my opinion a miss would be not putting on the list the no -brainer picks like Carter, or a person on their death bed like Steve McMichael. One for sure I do maybe see as a miss would be Shannen Doherty being that at the end of 2023 we were given the news that her cancer had spread to her brain.

Bobytomi 93 Posted October 6 Tin Oo had a history of health problems, suffered a stroke at 90, he was even in the immortals thread and Gena Rowlands was a class A actress who was on the same level to Joanne Woodward or Gene Hackman, born in 1930 as well. arghton 6,648 Posted October 6 To be honest, Tin Oo is someone I would never have expected the Cmme to pick considering they never went for the Mindfulness Monk, Dilip Kumar or Vajpayee all of who were much larger names and were also in failing health for ages. I still have hope they'd pick Mahathir Mohamad, but that probably won't happen. James Earl Jones wasn't that much of a "big miss" to me. His thread hadn't had updates since 2022 and he still seemed in somewhat fine health back then on DL standards. Gena Rowlands' dementia wasn't publicly known until earlier this year. Most of the people who are being called "misses" just weren't (or weren't known to be) as ill as ninety percent of the people on the current list. Doherty on the other hand had been "dying" for 8 years, and many of us didn't believe it that much anymore. There are only two I'd call "big misses" - David Graham and Jonnie Irwin. My opinions: Drop Brooks/Whale, Bardot, Scales, Wagner, Greenspan, Redgrave, Fritzl, the Pope, Farrakhan, Morris, Gall, Bugner, Nolan, Routledge, Duvall, Castro, Walters, Barenboim, maybe Aldrin, Eastwood and Cheney if there are no more hits this year. Book 3,539 Posted October 6 The 21 I would drop at this very moment are: 10. Robert Wagner 18. Patricia Routledge 19. Clint Eastwood 21. Vanessa Redgrave 22. Desmond Morris 26. Hans Blix 27. Julie Walters 31. Louis Farrakhan 32. Norman Tebbit 34. Daniel Barenboim 37. Dick Cheney 38. Prunella Scales 39. Robert Duvall 41. Brigitte Bardot 42. Raul Castro 43. Imelda Marcos 45. Buzz Aldrin 46. Sonny Rollins 47. Sly Stone 48. Tom Baker 50. Joe Bugner I would keep the Pope just because they missed Benedict XVI back in the days. Also Linda Nolan and James Whale because they are terminally ill and relatively young compared to most of the other candidates. Mel Brooks is too big to miss imo, I would not dare to drop him, although he doesn't seems to be near the end. If there are a few more deaths before the end of the year, I would put Norman Tebbit, Sonny Rollins or Desmond Morris back on the list. All in all – it's tough to drop 21 names!!!
