Staggering, then, that you lot collectively decided to do things differently, opting instead to crown Somebody That I Used To Know, the artsy classic by Gotye, as the UK’s best chart topper from last decade. Featuring those wonky guitar samples, the dulcet tones of Kimbra and a melody from a nursery rhyme, how could one possibly arrive at a different conclusion? It has aged better than most, to be fair. And now it has won such a prestigious accolade as Kill or Save winner on Deathlist dot net, maybe Gotye and Kimbra can enjoy a well-deserved career relaunch. Here they are to play us out. Sure, it was overplayed to hell in 2012 in a way that no songs are now (due to radios being behind the times, in my opinion).
