Who Should Be On The Deathlist 2025?

Recommended Posts

Steve McMichael, Bobby Seale (although frail, he seems the healthiest of the few), Johnnie Walker, Jesse Jackson, Thomas Noguchi or John Williams could all be great additions (although I just know at least one of them will drop before 2025, as goes my luck preparing my next year's shadowlist so far- 10 drops atm ).

Forgot about Johnnie Walker. If he makes it he is a must for a (likely early)  hit.

I forgot about Johnnie Walker and forgot to keep Roberta Flack on the keep list.

Just my top picks

  • Nigel McCrery - Terminal cancer with months to live
  • Pepe Mujica (Uruguay ex president)
  • Prunella Scales - Dementia plus husband just died
  • Esther Rantzen - Terminal cancer and keeps postponing her one way trip to Switzerland
  • Vanessa Redgrave
  • Yoko Ono
  • Jody Gormley - Terminal cancer

Gormley isn`t famous enough for DL.DDP Drop 40 absolutely but the main DL no chance. All others are good calls. However Vanesssa Redgrave surely has to be a drop next year based on those still left?

There are 2 names I won`t reveal as have been told in confidence by those close to them. But will give some hints

1) A former Cabinet minister under Margaret Thatcher who has Alzheimer`s that hasn`t been disclosed. The man in question when I saw him last year at a private event looked ok and good for his age but didnt say much (although I didnt get a chance to speak to him)

2)An actress best known for working at Granada and ITV but has worked on a few notable BBC productions as well.Has starred in soap operas and sitcoms as well as a range of TV dramas. and starred in a fair few films I was told several years ago she was in a care home with severe Alzheimer's and regularly thought she was still on set at Granada when roaming around the facility. This has never been disclosed publicly either.

Second is more of a household name than the first but both will widely obit when they go.

By Granada do you mean Corrie or other Granada dramas.

Dont want to say if its her or not as promised the family I would keep it quiet.Based on what I told you though that is a really good guess is all I can say.If the actresses friends or family reveal it in the press I will let you know if you are right but otherwise I really don`t want to put the name out there out of respect.Only other clue I will give it that she is wont be a unique on the DDP going forward.

For sure

Frankie Valli

Joel Grey (looked real frail in last apperances, wouldn’t bet on him making it to 2026)

John Williams

Lee Grant

James Ivory

Yayoi Kusama (weelchairbound if I remember correctly but still active..)

King Salman

Tippi Hedren

Isabel Peron (did look frail earlier this year and too many times overlooked, meets the fame criteria)

Don King

Amartya Sen

and for god’s sake : EVA MARIE SAINT

Maybe :

Sophie Kinsella (does she meet the fame criteria ? Never heard of her before this diagnosis and those young terminally ill people are not my personal cup of tea for the official DL, doesn’t seem like the kind to be picked either)

George Soros

Berry Gordy/ Clive Davis

Gabriel Matzneff (maybe too french-centered ? Paedo and author 89 next year, and I’m sure I saw somewhere that he had terminal cancer, maybe some French alumni can help there ?)

Sophie Kinsella is a best-selling novelist in UK and makes the American book charts as well. Her books were made into a movie. She meets the fame criteria. Even my mom was texting me about her diagnosis.

Sold something like 45 million books worldwide. She's massive.

It's just a matter of Cmme taste as while she had success in the 90s, she became far better known in the noughties, like a few picks they've avoided.

She would be a more "interesting" choice to me, as she's young enough still, and had more of a pop culture field. As an American interested in politics, even Alan Greenspan is too dull for me.

Joel Grey seems very healthy for a 92-year-old, I wouldn't call him frail at all. He still walks without a cane and just wrote a long NYT op-ed a few days ago. I think he'll probably make his mid-90s. (He's still pretty active. Maybe someone could make him a thread?)

I agree with everyone's suggestions for Tippi Hedren and Eva Marie Saint, obviously. I'm 50/50 on Valli. He looks horrible onstage, but he seems pretty physically fit otherwise. Given he has tour dates planned well into 2025, I wouldn't be opposed to waiting a year.

I see everyone mentioning John Williams. Agreeable enough, but can I suggest Lalo Schifrin, too? He hasn't appeared in public in 5+ years, and he was in a wheelchair then. There are a few film score forum threads out there that suggest he's not in great health.

Wild cards: James Baker, maybe? He hasn't been as active since his injury, and he'll be 95. Granted, SoS clearly has life-enhancing powers. Given the committee loves geriatric TV, also worth noting that Max Baer Jr. has returned autographs with an "unable to sign at this stage in his life" message as of 2023. Also, I suggested Louis Gossett Jr., Dabney Coleman, M. Emmet Walsh, and Joe Don Baker for 2024. Thus, they should add Joe Don Baker.

Why Soros? Seems like a very active nonagenarian to me.

Murdoch is surely a safer shout? He's noticeably slowing down and seldom makes appearances. Lots of serious illnesses in the last decade, if the Vanity Fair article on him is to be believed.

I hope @Ulitzer95 provides a list of suggestions as I think they will be excellent choices.

What does Soros actually still do?

There's far more action on the Murdoch side just going through Google news.

Hahahahahahahaha! You must be kidding, right?

I used to suggest names, and they'd get ignored every single time by "the Committee".

I'll submit another shadow list... maybe.

I'm on 13 hits this year. DL is on 5.

Signs you have spent too many years on DL. Thinking "David H Murdoch isn't really DLy" for a good ten seconds before twigging there was a rather more famous Murdoch.

Charizard. Wait, no, wrong thread.

They need to bring back Davey Attenborough.

Sophie Kinsella, David Irving, Adrian Sutton and David Lynch would make good debuts.

Seconding the Valli call.

 I did yesterday ^

Especially Charizard. :D
