Musician James "Nick" Nixon, an omnipresent and beloved figure in Nashville's blues and R&B scenes for 50 years, died Wednesday. He was 76 years old, and over the course of his career, worked with everyone from legendary rock 'n' roll guitarist Scotty Moore to gospel group the Fairfield Four.

Missed this one at the time: back in February "Sunshine" Sonny Payne, host of the legendary King Biscuit Time blues radio show from 1951 until late last year, died at the age of 92. There was a BBC radio documentary about him in 2013, but weirdly his death doesn't seem to have made it past blues websites and some very minor Arkansas-area news outlets.

Eddy collaborated with good buddies of mine, Los Straitjackets and released the Grammy nominated album "Rock 'N' Roll City". I was fortunate enough to get Eddy to sign my copy of Reservation Blues

Blues legend Jessie Sanders died Wednesday in his Memphis home at the age of 87.

Sanders, better known as Lil' Howlin' Wolf, was born in Florence, Mississippi, on June 26, 1930. He grew up in Chicago and was mentored by Chester Burnett, better known as Howlin' Wolf.

When Burnett died in 1976, Sanders took his stage name as a tribute to his mentor.
