Syl Johnson, a noted American blues and soul singer who had a series of minor hits on the Billboard Hot 100 from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, has died. He was 85. Johnson was the younger brother of Jimmy Johnson, who died just days ago and whose Deathlist entry is just above.

It may have been, as you say, a relatively minor hit, but it’s a majorly influential and important song, which thankfully was never covered by Ali G (to my knowledge).

Timmy Thomas, an R&B singer who had a big hit in 1973 with 'Why Can't We Live Together', has died. He was 77. Thomas would chart with a few other minor hits. Drake memorably sampled Thomas' biggest hit for his own huge song, 'Hotline Bling'.

Saw them back in the day.  Don't remember much about them, tbh.  Boyfriend was keen on them and had some of their albums.

British blues musician Otis Grand's death was announced on June 9. Somewhat surprised I didn't see that on here unless I looked in the wrong place.
