Mentioned in the Detective Work thread.

IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0740459/

Young Violet in the film. Gloria Grahame played the grown up Violet. I can't inbed a photo for some reason but that's a sad end/start to the year (delete where applicable)

Wizard of Oz (1939) surviving actors:

Not sure which thread would be the best one for keeping track of this dying breed, but this seemed like the best one. All but Caren are child munchkins, children hired for background fill. More: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls061321507/

Living or confirmed alive during the last 6 years:

Caren Marsh Doll (1919-) Judy Garland's stand-in.

Priscilla Ann Montgomery Clark (1929-) Was alive in 2016 (article) and looked great.

Betty Ann Bruno (1930-) Later worked as a reporter and a tv host. Has a wikipedia page.

Ardith Dondanville (1930-2022) Was alive in 2016 according to facebook posts.

Joan Kenmore (1931-2022) Shitty TMZ article from 2018 here about how the "munchkins are not dead" due to there being a couple of child actors still alive with a 35 second clip of her talking about how she was informed of Jerry Maren's frail health before he died.

Valerie Lee Shepard (1931-) Alive

Elaine V. Merk (1931-) Likely alive

Viola Faye White (1930-2000) Dead.

@arghton

Elaine V. Merk (correct spelling) b. 19 Dec 1930, married George A. Binder in 1959. Has attended reunions, often as "Elaine Merk Binder".

Living in Alhambra, CA as recently as 2018. Could've died since then, though the Oz community is generally as sharp as anything.

Valerie Lee Shepard b. 14 Dec 1931 as Lois Valerie Shepard. Now goes by the name of Lois V. Haynes. Still signing autographs in 2018 and notes on StarTiger suggest she was alive in late 2020, residing in Reseda, CA.

Viola Faye White b. 12 Jan 1930, later became Viola Faye Banks, but she died on 8 Jan 2000 (aged 69) in Nebraska.

So (assuming none of them have died off radar in the last few years), there are 7 living cast members, 6 of whom were child actresses.

He didn’t die on his birthday. Read the TMZ article. The family stated he was born in 1933 but that the Jan 1st date of birth used on the net everywhere is incorrect.

Not names anyone outside these forums would define "big", but we have recently lost a discreet number of geezers, starting from Betty White. Barbara Chilcott, Hilton Cheong-Leen, Joan Copeland, SH Sarma all shy of their 100th birthday. Plus Njonjo and Zheng Min at 101. Not a bad start for the year.
