Death List Observer Dies

Guest Death List Observer

I recently came across a posting by another "Death List Observer" who, in the Fidel Castro thread, proclaimed socialism. Let it be said that I am not that socialist. Indeed, I am a neoliberal.

A strange bit of irony. Within the past hour and a half, my doctor has confirmed to me that I am suffering from an advanced form of leukemia. I was told Friday that there was cause for concern, but the news did not settle in until today. Because this until-now undetected and advanced disease is practically incurable, I am forgoing treatment and may pass on within these next three months. The news could not have been of greater surprise for me. Although heartbroken, I shall continue to take part in the things I love -reading, writing, watching the Newshour with Jim Lehrer, and keeping DeathListers posted on all the latest news, be it Lady Bird Johnson or myself.

Within the past year, I have grown deeply in my faith, and I now feel prepared to come home whenever I may be called. For those of you in this forum who have gotten to know me over the past few months, I will have my wife post the news of my death when I pass away. I am now more prepared than ever for the day that I shall meet my maker. I thank the DeathListers for all the amusement with which you have provided me.

Regards,

Death List Observer

Irony indeed. This is most unwelcome news and I wish you strength in whatever trials you will face in the future.

DWB

ps - You're meant to report the news not be the news! ;)

I am the son of Death List Observer. Not too long ago, my father, a history and philosophy buff, told me how he'd stumbled upon this website when searching for information on the anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss. He told me of how this site brought him great amusement.

Within hours of my father posting news of his leukemia on this forum, he collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where, two hours ago, he died. Thanks to all DeathListers for their outpouring of support.

Colour me sceptical, but I don't believe a word of that, nor of the leukemia story.

Hein

I am also not inclined to believe the leukemia story or the death of DLO. It just sounds too convenient. Maybe this is his way of seeking attention.

I too, am sceptical. It would only take some Banshee-esque spelling to make the first post in this thread read like a Nigerian Email scam. But since we have no evidence one way or the other, and are unlikely to get any, I'll just say goodbye to DLO and express my condolences if appropriate to his family.

We are unlikely to hear from him again in any case.

It was good of you to rise from your deathbed to tell us that. This shows the importance of registering properly.

He didn't even get to have a cool avatar. :sobbing icon:

No socialist am I, yet I am certainly no neoliberal. Rather, I fall in between the two - I consider myself a genuine progressive. My lifestyle, of course, is typical of that mocked by conservatives - I watch PBS, listen to NPR, read Sontag, and so on.

This thresd is of the similar nature to it's sister thread and contains the same rubbish can it be deleted or atleast merged with the other one as it is becoming confussing and it a silly confussing thread a it is!

Having observed these forums for some time, I have come to the conclusion that Death List Observer, who supposedly died today, is an inconsistent, attention-seeking individual.

Just minutes before announcing his leukemia, Death List Observer was posting a message in which he proclaimed himself a neoliberal - hardly the activity of a dying leukemia patient. It was not long before we were told that he had about three months to live, and hours later, we were informed that Death List Observer was dead.

It was not only the past day's strange episode that I adamantly believe did not occur, but a little more than a week ago, Death List Observer claimed to have been told by a source close to Lady Bird Johnson that the former first lady was facing an imminent death. By week's end, her health had improved, we were told.

I have no doubt in my mind that Death List Observer is a serial attention seeker.

Yes these can be merged at some point perhaps. I just wanted to add this: while we won't hear from DLO again under that name, perhaps the mods can keep an eye out for "another" time-waster posting similar drivel from the same IP address. Regular tedious updates on the health of Lady Bird Johnson should be a clue.

{mreged again HCW}

Some of them, and they were very good. Does this mean that some early examples might be worth a bob or two?
