Dorothy McClements, who surely must hold the record for oldest person living in the same residence her entire life, has died.  She was 110 and an unvalidated supercentenarian.

Damn, tough L for the fellas out there.

I'd expect the gap to start closing in 10-15 years as the 1960's -> high quality of healthcare over the western world's population (alongside the rise of health and safety culture) means there'll be decent amount of men who have had a good life with middling manual labour. And fewer lifelong smokers in the ranks too.

Died off the radar but worth a mention.

Taufeek Khanjar, who made headlines in 2012 after becoming a British citizen aged 104, died in Sutton in 2018 at the alleged age of 110/111 according to the GRO database:

KHANJAR, TAUFEEK  BAGGAL   1907
GRO Reference:  DOR  Q1/2018 in Sutton  (254-1A)  Entry Number 516920198

Mentioning because he was picked in the DDP in 2014.

We have a new world's oldest man, Chitetsu Watanabe:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7995555/Worlds-oldest-man-says-never-getting-angry-keeping-smile-face-secret-long-life.html

The Daily Mail manages to circumvent the whole Gustav Gerneth-non obit story by mentioning that the previous record holder, another Japanese man, died just last month.

It also fails to mention that not far behind him in 2nd place is the UK’s Bob Weighton.

Kane Tanaka is still not dead, but the UK's oldest person Hilda Clulow is. She was aged 111 years and 284 days. Awaiting obit.

Seeing lots of Hilda Clulow reporting today, as the British media belatedly catches up with DL.

do you think there is any chance that one of the person listed here were allegedly true ? I mean on the last section a lot of those people claimed to have lived for 140-150 years. Do you really believe, though all of theme there can be one who isn't fake ?

Most Scientist agree that the absolute maximum age of a Human lies around 125-130, so almost definitely not.

Yeah i red about that. But I mean, science can be wrong You know, there’s obviously one exception, isn’t it ? I mean among ALL the people who claimed to be 130 or more since the beginning of time, do you really think there can’t be just ONE person Who was telling the truth ? THAT sounds impossible to me...

I personally think its unlikely:

-->  There are 8 billion people right now
--> 100 Billion people have been alive since Homo Sapiens started to exist
--> We probably know the birth and death date of 2-3 Billion of those people
--> The statistical barrier is 117 years with only 2 exceptions
--> Supercentenarians probably hardly, if ever, existed before 1800, even centenarians are very seldom, we only know of a view among the noble and aristocrat elites and they usually live longer
--> The first documented Supercentenarian was born in 1788 and only lived up to the barrier of 110 years
--> Ever since then the age barrier only slowly progressed while peaking with Jeanne Calment who has not been topped yet.

Statistically this all makes sense, the maximum age slowly increased and in the years before 1800 even the outliers like Jeanne Calment would have barely topped out in the late 100s while modern humans could barely top out in the late 120s.

And a fortnight later, Chitetsu Watanabe is being reported dead in Japan:

That makes Bob Weighton the world's oldest man.

Irene Triplett is 'only' 89 but is the oldest (& conversely youngest) person to still be receiving a pension from service in the American Civil War which ended 155 years ago! Her father who saw active service (& also reputedly saw Abraham Lincoln who was shot in 1865) was over 80 when she was born.

That makes Bob Weighton the world's oldest man.

The oldest British woman is bizarrely exactly the same age as Bob Weighton at 111 years 333 days. Up to about a year ago Bob Weighton & another British man were joint oldest men in the UK & used to exchange birthday cards until the other gentleman died. The 3rd oldest Briton is Violet Davies-Evans who is only a day younger at 111 years 332 days!

Might be a new oldest man by the end of the week when Her Maj sends the boys round!

He’s got a point. My understanding is you get one at 100, then your next at 105, then every year after? He’ll be getting his 9th telegram next month. Surely they should change it so you get them at 100, 105, 110, 115.

I think he has a great shot at becoming the oldest man ever.

I also envy his hairline.

EDIT: Here's a video interview of him taken recently:
