:salute:

RIP to the first president to pass away since Gerald Ford (and also my 10th hit).

Glad you're with Barbara again.

Was The First News Source to Report His Death The BBC?

Probably not, they’re usually one of the last big news sources to report any death outside of the UK...

RIP. Would've picked him for TJS next year - I felt the opportunity to get points from a US President was irresistible, and it was timer's on mode for him after Barbara's death. So meh on that front.

I did not realise until reading his obit that he was the first vice-president to get elected to the Oval office for 150 years.

Probably be the last ever to hold that honour.

Pretty sure Bush wouldn't want him their anyway? Maybe this is gift to the rest of us, knowing he's got to attend he's set up the assassination himself at his own funeral.

RIP to a leader who prioritized his own country over his popularity.

Also, CNN is now basically the Bush Network. There hasn't been a single piece of news other than this one since this morning.

Are you counting Nixon or Johnson?

I also googled it to get more names - Truman, Coolidge, Teddy Roosevelt etc without diving into the nineteenth century.

Guessing it means those who won election to the presidency as a sitting vice president? Nixon had a gap, the rest ascended upon death.

I'm of the opinion that at least some of them went the other way.

Purely as I'm told some folk had never seen it before after referencing in his TCD obit...

Oh okay, I get it. I still disagree with the original phrasing, but I get the thought process now.

Well, not quite. First sitting VP to be elected in that time, but Nixon was elected in 1968 having been VP from 1953-1961.

I just realized that there’s only 5 US presidents living right now:

Jimmy Carter - 94 years of age

Bill Clinton - 72 years of age

George W Bush - 72 years of age

Barack Obama - 57 years of age

Vladimir Putin - 66 years of age

The others were not VP at the time of the election to President.

Amazing how one sentence can be interpreted in different ways.

Funny how one of the most powerful men in the history of America (UN ambassador, GOP Chairman, CIA director, VP, POTUS, Father of POTUS) basically lived out the last quarter of a century of his life in quiet retirement.

Been away in London , but the BBC obit from Jon Sopel was wrong.

Bush Senior was the last American Cold War leader to die.

What about Carter. Sums up the BBC...
