Astronauts

Young’s death brings the number of men who walked on the moon down to five out of twelve. Beginning of the end of an era. Living astronauts should be included in future years as we lose about two a year.

Buzz Aldrin wasn't included in DL 2017 or 2018.  You can rest assured a US Astronaut will never be part of DL, perhaps the Committee doesn't feel they are 'death listy' enough.

To be fair Buzz is still in robust health. Definitely a DeathListy name if he fell ill.

Yeah, if Buzz Aldrin wasn't Deathlisty we might as well all pack up and go home. Hopefully wont need a spot on the List for some time yet.

NASA must have thought Young was a pain in the ass. They strapped him to a rocket no less than six times!

Seven, if you count his lift-off from the lunar surface!

Happy Birthday Mr Aldrin. And well done on 48 years of not letting out that that little film you and your mates made was not actually a moon landing. Fine work.

According to science, there's no moon when we don't look. However, Mr Bean could be the next one

This as good a place as any.

Flat Earth self taught rocket building cunto pencils in this weekend for his demise.

Doubt any good for the various pools as too soon.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/22/self-taught-rocket-scientist-plans-launch-to-test-flat-earth-theory

A man who claims that Earth is flat tried to leave it in a homemade rocket Saturday but failed to overcome the gravitational force of a 13,166,800,000,000,000,000,000,000-pound sphere directly beneath him.

In fairness to Mike Hughes, he knows how to build a rocket. He built them for many years under the precepts of classical physics, when he was still a relatively conventional daredevil, which is to say, one who believed Earth is round.  But Saturday marked Hughes's third aborted launch since he declared himself a flat-earther last year and announced a multipart plan to fly to space by the end of 2018 so he could prove astronauts have been lying about the shape of the planet.  Hughes blamed technical difficulties — possibly a bad O-ring (snark) — for his steam-powered rocket's failure to ignite this weekend in the Mojave Desert.

Frank Borman of Gemini VII and Apollo 8 is 90 today...:birthday:

Oldest surviving American astronaut, oldest survivor of the space race in fact. Bests Jim Lovell by 11 whole days. :D

Identical twins no longer identical after the astronaut brother returns from extended stay in space. 7% of his genes have changed permanently, including those related to the immune system and DNA repair.

Could have very interesting long term implications for any astronaut or cosmonaut who has spent a long time up in Mir or the ISS in the past.

Jim Lovell, first man to make four spaceflights, is 90 today!

:birthday:

Not the oldest surviving US astronaut - he's in second place, eleven days behind Frank Borman.

Boris Johnsons' head. Though it probably wouldn't have much effect.

Fourth man on the Moon Alan Bean was briefly hospitalized, though has since been released - http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180511/WEB/180519962

Still five moonwalkers left alive though all very elderly.

A serious question - will any of them live to see another man or woman walk on the Moon?

No. America threw away the space program's worth during the Carter and Reagan era. Unless China decides to make a shot for the moon, then it's unlikely.

Yeah, but...what if ONE of those surviving moon walkers lived to be 105?

Tbh I think they'll all be gone before anyone else gets there and I also think the new generation who do get there might provide us with some point scoring opportunities and maybe some points before too long.
