1987 veterans still alive

Guest mystery man

I was looking through your previous deathlists and, to my shock and horror, discovered that no fewer than five of the names on the original 1987 list are still with us today, namely:

Clive Dunn.................born 9/1/1920

Andrea de Cesaris.......born 31/5/1959

Jimmy Saville.............born 31/10/1926

Anna Wing..................born 30/10/1914

Ozzy Osbourne............born 3/12/1948

18 years on and still not dead ! What on earth is going on ? And by the way judging from his age it looks like it will be a hell of a long time before de Cesaris dies - I wonder how many years after you predicted his demise it will be before he finally passes away?

Regards,

a mystery man.

I started a thread on this last year, which I assume is no longer accessible. I gather Signor de Cesaris was a racing driver prone to high-speed crashes.

But it does seem strange that Jimmy Savile's demise was expected when he was only 61.

Ozzy Osbourne............born 3/12/1948

He nearly died in an accident 2 years ago.

I suppose in the first couple years of the DL the picks were

not as seriously selected as they are now.

The candidates are seriously selected? That's probably news to GR and his panel of experts...........

Nobody claimed this was an exact science. Andrea de Cesaris was a seriously sh*t racing driver. I think he still holds the record for the most F1 starts without a win. He pranged cars back in the day when fatalities were still a fairly common part of the entertainment on offer so I'd have gone with him as a good outside bet in 87. David Crosby would probably have made the list in the mid-eighties given his heroic intake of illegal stimulation back then but old racers retire and old druggies clean up. If we limited it just to the old and infirm we'd lose half the fun.

Nearly isn't good enough for DL.

Savile was born on Halloween - how did I spend this long on the Deathlist and not know that?

Don't be so harsh on yourself. I didn't either, and why would a post from 2005 provoke such a thought anyway? At that point (outside of insiders) he was just a batty Fixer with a jogging obsession and a decent enough penchant for raising money for hospitals. I won't forget now of course.
