So, let's ask those in the know:

1 - How long will it take the other teams to match the Brawn pace?

2 - Will Brawn and the others survive the hearing in a few weeks on their - allegedly - infringing aerodynamics?

Who cares? All I know is that I'm a brilliant driver, because the man who taught Jenson to drive also taught me. So there. Roger Brunt's his name.

Here's another question for those in the know:

Is Lewis Hamiltion the spawniest Formula 1 driver since Alain Prost?

I was surprised that he was even in a position to take 5th.

Anyone else think it was a bit fishy that the safety car waited until Button was in for his pit-stop before it came out (1st incident)?

I must admit, I enjoyed the Aussie F1. I don't know if it was because I could watch it during normal hours, not at two in the morning, or the rule changes, or having another team take the lion's share of the points, but whatever it was, I thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable day of couch potatoing. Much more so than any other I can remember for a long time.

It might just be a courtesy for front running cars.

I agree with honez, I thought it was a cracking opening GP, full of incident. Formula 1 is definitely on the up I reckon...

oh dear - not the "lets strip points from Lewis" situation again. I think its time for him to book a seat in IRL and try and win the Indy500.

Henceforth it is officially impossible to ever take F1 seriously.

"And the fine is 100 trillion dollars."

A team of circus chimps would run a more professional and organised operation.

And once again the eventual World Champion will need to score at lot more points than Hamilton or the moral victory will be his.

Haven't they given McLaren a 10 place grid drop as well?

Well if Lewis & McLaren didn't tell fibs & cheated, then they wouldn't have lost points. Bizarre. All they had to do was tell the truth, and at worst they would've lost 1 point - and if Brawn & Toyota are proved illegal (which I doubt), then they would've won.

Now they've got nothing & look like cheats.

To top this, they've sacked their team manager & Lewis has been grovelling today big style. Very, very strange behaviour.

This is all I've got to say about it - I haven't got time for all the side issues above. Besides, is all this the correct thread? Surely, we should have an F1 extra-curricular thread for the discussion, a la football & leave the rest of the thread for illness & death related info (as per the football thread & the Final Whistle or whatever the death football one is) .... Is this possible?

Is it an actual FIA rule that if they only have 60% of a race to award only half the points, or is this another one of those that Bernie just made up on the spot? Some drivers actually have half points in their totals now. Fantastic. If they'd only managed twenty laps would they have handed out one third of the full points?

Two races, two farces, 15 more to go. I can hardly wait to see what they come up with next time out.

;)

You can't pin this rant on Max and/or Bernie. You can pin it on a long-since-dead administrator from France. It's a rule that's been in place for over 35 years.

In 1972 - it is dealt with in paragraph 21 of the General Prescriptions section of the International Championship Regulations in the FIA Yellow Book: this of course means the rule does not apply just to the WDC, but to all FIA championships.

It has also been used in other events when a fatal crash has meant the end of the race.

Mind you, this is 1st time it's happened in F1 since 1991, and only the 5th time since the rule was brought in.

(Spain 1975, Austria 1975, Monaco 1984, Australia 1991, Malaysia 2009 - all bar one due to rain - the other was a fatality).

Surely you can't have preferred that they drive in those conditions??

Starting late.. yes, that was a farce, but awarded half-points & putting drivers safety first can hardly be called farcial.

Ah yes, most if not all of those races were just as controversial as the most recent one.

Spain 1975 : After some major bolt-tightening action by everyone involved (the drivers refused to race due to dodgy armco barriers), the race got underway at the infamous Monjuich Park in Barcelona. After numerous crashes, Rolf Stommelen found himself in the lead, until he crashed as well, killing 4 people when he went into the barriers (apparently screwed together by his own mechanics the previous day).

Austria 1975 : A race so hilariously randomised, Vittorio Brambilla managed to be in the lead when it was stopped. Even he was surprised. He crashed going over the finishing line.

Monaco 1984 : Who knows who really one that one. Mansell probably should have, but went off after ignoring Jackie Stewart's advice ("Och, stay off the white road markings in the rain Nigel"). Prost led it, but was being caught in leaps and bounds towards the end by Ayrton Senna and Stefan Bellof. Monaco clerk-of-the-course Jackie Ickx red-flagged the face just as Senna overtook Prost, but it was counted back to the previous lap. Ironically, Senna's car wouldn't have lasted much longer, as he'd broken his suspension earlier. Then Bellof would have won but his team was disqualified at the end of the season. Yes, who knows what went on that day?

Australia 1991 : It should never have been started, but the drivers were more afraid of the wrath of Bernie and the GP organisers than torrential rain and zero visibility. So off they went, to engage in 14 laps of soggy mayhem. Eventually, Senna pulled into the pits and demanded the race be stopped. Who could refuse Senna.

This article suggests that the budget cap is more to do with Bernie Ecclestone's 50% commercial rights share than actual cost savings, who'd have thought it!

I do hope that the teams don't back down, both of those cocksuckers have to go!

Thought I would pick a slightly unoriginal swear word that works, I did want to say fokers or amazing people but both have lost their bite now.

Why would w'ankers be amazing people?

Oh, I know you were TDF. Personally, I would have gone for "utter w'ankers".

Its just that the use of such a word, with its obvious sexual overtones, just might, only just might, bring back a certain somebody.

If you have ever watched a fly maneuvering round a cows a'rsehole, you will understand who Im refering to..hopefully.

Max Mosley may go on breathing a while longer, but he's unemployed at the end of October.

F1 breakaway series averted and deadpoolers' dreams of two rival championships, both taking the odd risk on overlooked and less safe tracks now in ruins, or summat.
