Lightfoot famously said he'd never heard a cover of one of his songs that he didn't like - which might have been a wry comment on the income the best known songs earned him that way. Early Mornin' Rain was a staple of Elvis' best gigs during the Vegas period. It's on Elvis Now (1972) which is a fairly patchy set of performances of stuff intended to make The King sound like he was in touch. It's something of a standout next to perfunctory stabs at the likes of Hey Jude, and he did it well live. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Now
harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,689 Posted May 3, 2023 I had a bash at both versions mentioned here, and Viola Wills’s too for good measure. Fun song to karaoke, for sure. Also a Connie Converse song. I’d somehow never heard of her, although being a MIA no doubt means DJ Maryport has told her tale on his radio show.

maryportfuncity 10,657 Posted October 30, 2023 Saw recent story about old hippie/folkie Donovan recently being nicked driving pissed with an open bottle of wine in the car. He's fairly on message and across the detail on the most recent Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on BBC Six Music, which has Donovan'd double hippy dippy A Gift from a Flower to a Garden as featured album. Also, still displaying the sense of self-worth that means he claims to be unable to walk along a beach and/or out in public without being recognised. Have a look at the photo in the link and see if you recognise this famous musician https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/donovan-convicted-dangerous-driving-cork-31271532?fbclid=IwAR3huehauQw9bhxYH6uO0XN4AjTw_uGckaauTluzhf0ZBAjKG_oAfXNLhK4

YoungWillz 21,066 Posted July 18 Report of the death of the last surviving member of folk revivalists Young Tradition, Heather Wood: https://www.salutlive.com/2024/07/heather-wood.html She performed with Peter Bellamy and Royston Wood in the group.
