Buried by volcanic ash and/or lava.
No not 3000 years ago.  30 HOURS AGO!

WHAKATANE, New Zealand — A volcanic island in New Zealand erupted Monday in a tower of ash and steam while dozens of tourists were exploring the moon-like surface, killing five people and leaving many more missing.

Police said the site was still too dangerous hours later for rescuers to search for the missing.  The Police Deputy Commissioner said the number of missing was in the double digits but he couldn’t confirm an exact number. He said there were fewer than 50 people on the island when it erupted and 23 had been taken off, including the five dead.

Gruesome update - and headline of the year, 2019!

New Zealand needs skin for volcano victims suffering burns

More than 1,290 square feet of skin sought

New Zealand has ordered 1,292 square feet of skin to treat patients injured in Monday's volcanic eruption on White Island.  A total of 47 people were on White Island, off the coast of North Island, when the eruption occurred.  Eight people have been confirmed dead, and more than 20 others are currently hospitalized in critical condition. Search and recovery operations are continuing for those still missing and presumed dead on the island. The skin is now needed to treat patients severely injured by the volcanic ash and gas. Medical officials said 27 people in hospital had burns to at least 30% of their bodies and many have inhalation burns that require airway support. Every burns unit in the country is at full capacity.

Not dead as per this report, but probably wishing he was.   And I'll take my chances posting it...

Some surfer dude is struck by lightning off the Australian coast.  About 10 minutes earlier at the same beach/location another lightning bolt hit a 71-year old lady in the chest.

A grocer was killed after a one-ton piece of metal was flung nearly two miles by an explosion at a Spanish chemical plant and landed on him.

Sergio Millian, 59, died in Tarragona, 50 miles south of Barcelona, after the ceiling of his flat collapsed on top of him.

Investigators believe the collapse was caused when a piece of metal from the reactor chamber at a nearby chemical plant flew through the window of the apartment above his. The weight of the metal then caused the ceiling to collapse, crushing him.

That kind of story is the kind of thing that makes people believe in destiny

or not to live near a chemical plant

I would have thought 2 miles to be a sufficient buffer, but if it's your time to go, you're gonna go.

It’s a fact anyone living within 50 miles of Barcelona is taking their life in their own hands.

has anyone tried recipes like this? Take some white arsenic and mix it with flour. Feed it to a young cock which will become very sick. When the cock is about to die, kill it. Take a piece from  its breast and bury the rest of its flesh. Dry the piece that you have, grind it and cook with mutton and plenty of butter.

White arsenic? Are there really other kinds?

This one really IS a legit interesting way to die.  I posted in 'American Football' but I find it more interesting than footbally.  LOL

Former Arizona linebacker Sterling Lewis has died after being hospitalized for Valley fever. He was 32.

Arizona announced Lewis' death Thursday

Lewis played under coach Mike Stoops in 2008-09 after transferring from Blinn College in Texas. He played 23 games for the Wildcats, finishing with 98 combined tackles and three sacks.

Valley fever is a fungal lung infection caused by coccidioides organisms. The fungus is known to live in the soil in the Southwest and people with Valley fever contract the infection by breathing in the microscopic spores.

how is that for commitment for your job

Clement Vallandigham, a 19th century US lawyer, accidentally shot himself dead while defending a murder suspect – because he was trying to demonstrate that a supposed victim could have accidentally shot himself dead. (It worked, because his client was acquitted.)

He failed to defend his next client though....
