Lady Die 63 Posted July 15, 2005 No-one can have escaped the fact that a new Harry Potter book is about to go on sale. http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13387297,00.html One of the main characters is going to be killed off. I reckon it will be Ron (the boy with red hair) because he is really dull. Anyone got any better suggestions?
Earl Gloomy 7 Posted July 15, 2005 Are we stooping to new levels? - close this thread, lock it or delete it or something it's fictional based.
Boudicca 702 Posted July 15, 2005 Maybe it will be Harry. If I were J.K Rowling, I wouldn't bother to finish the series at all. I would have killed him after the first ten million registered in my bank account.
BrunoBrimley 85 Posted July 15, 2005 If I had any say in the matter we would hop in our Wayback machine (you, me, Sherman and Mr.Peabody) and go back in time and get that blasted Rowling woman a decent job somewhere so we wouldn't have a group of middle age lunkheads crowding into bookstores for some book which is essentially drivel. (I can say this since I have never read and never intend to read any Potter books. At least not Harry Potter, now if we discuss Beatrix Potter that's another matter.) I tortured myself with one of those Harry Potter films, but only because I find that guy Coltrane to be so adorable and charming in his roles (and robes). Didn't finish that film and haven't seen the rest of them. At least the entire Lord of The Rings series had some umph to them and originality(the Tolkien books I mean, not the overhyped, over-rated, over-priced films), these Potter books are inane hogwash replete with warts. And another thing...
Windsor 2,216 Posted July 15, 2005 I agree with Boudicca. I hate Harry Potter*. *Not for the same reasons as the Vatican - they are obviously terrified that it will out sell the bible.
Guest IYG Posted July 15, 2005 Dumbledore led the bets as to who is being killed off, so many bets in fact, someone said there might be a leak. She won't kill off any of the kids, her fans won't allow it. Though the best possible ending for book 7 is Harry and Voldermort both dying.
Magere Hein 1,398 Posted July 15, 2005 She won't kill off any of the kids, her fans won't allow it. Though the best possible ending for book 7 is Harry and Voldermort both dying. A much more modern ending would be when Harry and Voldermort marry, the rest of the cast die from shock and they live happily ever after. regards, Hein
Windsor 2,216 Posted July 15, 2005 Or perhaps J.K Rowling dying. You do realise that she is going to write book after book until the damehood (Which I expect to be announced in the New Years Honours alongside Jamie 'arsehole' Olivers Knighthood). I don't like either of them.

Lady Grendel 139 Posted July 16, 2005 I have to agree with Boudicca that the only way to end it is to kill off HP & Voldemort, it could go on forever if JK doesn't. I read the first two books before HP became a media icon and thought the 3rd one was the best just as HP became a worldwide icon, as for the 4th & 5th I bought them on the day of publication but won't be doing it for this one, I still haven't finished 'Order of the Phoenix' and can't see me doing it anytime soon, there are some great books I remember from my childhood that have recently been republished: Harold and the Purple Crayon Little Black Quasha (so un PC now, I know, please don't take offence) The Wind on the Moon - Eric Linklater The Land of Green Ginger - Noel Langley and those that should have been The Tree That Sat Down - Beverley Nichols The Stream That Stood Still - Beverley Nichols The Mountain of Magic - Beverley Nichols and of course the ones that are always in print, the Narnia Chronicles, I was 21 before I read 'The Last Battle' and was very glad I didn't read it as a child, then there is 'The Phantom Tolbooth' and 'The Weirdstone of Brisingamen'. I hope that HP brings todays kids to the world of books, it gave and still gives me a world of pleasure. As for Robbie Coltrane, I am with you on that one BB, he has appeared on so many sketch shows in Scotland over the years (notably 'a kick up the eighties') and is soon to appear on 'Still Game' a Glasgow based sitcom, the new series of which goes nationwide next Friday on BBC2, I still have a videotape of a one man show he did in Glasgow circa 1989 in an orange boilersuit, his take on the Lazarus resurrection is one of the funniest things I have ever seen
Captain Oates 21 Posted July 16, 2005 If anyone is short of a something to read, here are a few books to choose from. And of course, all DLers will wish to have read this one.
Lady Die 63 Posted July 16, 2005 I have no intention of reading the book so can someone tell me who it is that gets bumped off.
Dr Strangelove 14 Posted July 16, 2005 I have no intention of reading the book so can someone tell me who it is that gets bumped off. If you haven't read them, (and neither have I, thank god!) then you probably won't know whichever minor character she's chosen. I would like to concur with all the DLer's slagging off JKR, making children read for once is no excuse for inflicting rubbish on the world.

Captain Oates 21 Posted July 16, 2005 DL is very quiet today (even for a Saturday). Now, does that mean that all the usual suspects are reading a new book? Who will be the first to admit having finished it?
Guest IYG Posted July 16, 2005 DL is very quiet today (even for a Saturday). Now, does that mean that all the usual suspects are reading a new book? Who will be the first to admit having finished it? Well, I'm not reading it, I'm getting ready for my flight later today. I'm actually such a major geek I ordered the book from amazon uk so I can have it in the original language. lospalmas7 12 Posted July 16, 2005 Here's a riddle: Why would someone pay £16.03 (+£2.75 p&p) for this book from eBay when you could get it for £8.99 from amazon? May I suggest anyone looking for a more challenging read look no further than 'Influx' by J.C. Jones. I'm told it's very good.
The Four Horsemen 25 Posted July 16, 2005 Somebody had the new Potter book at my cricket match today - but still no idea who dies in it or what happens. I hadn't heard of Influx by JC Jones but it sounds a must read - I'll go and check it out immediately. You would have thought that such a good book would have been touted around forums by it's author, but clearly not in this case!

Boudicca 702 Posted July 16, 2005 Its dumbledoor and snape is the killer just read it in the book. I'm looking forward to seeing "Avada Kedavra", on the page when he gets killed. It always makes me laugh. Paul Daniels did not use it to such deadly effect
