Subject of The Man Who Skied Down Everest (1975), major Japanese mountaineer and skier Yūichirō Miura (91) is an impressive guy. He has had kidney disease and diabetes for decades, had four heart operations (and cardiac arrest) and a long pelvis surgery following a severe fall in his 70s. After all this, he became the oldest person to climb Mt. Everest in 2013, at 80.

In June 2020 he had a spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma and was hospitalised for eight months...but, that didn't stop him from summiting Mt. Fuji half-paralyzed in a wheelchair in August. Will he "climb" again?

Spoiler

Vladimir Vysotsky song "Top" from the film "Vertical" (1967)

Report of the death of Major Michael Lane aka Bronco Lane

A former SAS officer, he summitted Everest in 1976 and a couple of mountaineering books to his name. The story of the loss of his digits is not for the time you are eating.

A hero of mine.

So much so that I’d like everyone on here to enjoy a picture I recently took of Lane’s amputed toes which he lost to frostbite on Everest (along with a thumb and a few fingers!)… :D

Not seen any updates in the media but there might be form-studying coverage regarding the current health of the incredibly healthy Chris Bonnington, because he's 90 on Tuesday

Just a thought, mind, if he carries on like this then when there's a final reckoning the average age of death amongst the big names attempting Everest in the 1970s won't look so tragic!

Sandy Irvine - last seen alive on Everest just over 100 years ago, offers up a foot by way of revealing his last resting place

Here in the US, at least on ABC which happens to also be owned by the same company that owns National Geographic (who seem to be producing a documentary on this), they led with the idea that the two climbers in question were the first up Everest, which is almost impossible to prove. I have no idea why they would. The BBC meanwhile is taking the responsible route and not focusing on that at all.
