Great interview on Radio 4 this morning with pioneering climber and author Gwen Moffat, 96, who is still healthy enough to go hill walking - "but nothing more than 1500 feet".

Now Chris Bonington is climbing his fucking stairs for charity. Nepalese charity.

No harm to him, but what's his angle? A sainthood from the Pope? Order of the Garter from the Queen? Or will he settle for a mention in Parliament from Blibberwimble?

British mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington has shown up on Sky News talking about his mate Philip (the Prince). Looking aged but quite well - but is 87 this summer so will start to be on more of our radars before long.

He took part in the 1965 Indian Everest Expedition and during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 suffered a spine injury that left him wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life.

The team leader of that expedition is still alive, by the way. Mohan Singh Kohli, now 90.

Named as one of 25 most adventurous women of the past 25 years by Men's Journal in 2018. And the attempt to stay on that list was going so well!

@maryportfuncity

And you were right!

The Russian Geographical Society sent an expedition to the Indian Himalayas.

This task is altogether intriguing "the expedition will search for places where Allied warplanes fell in 1943-1945".

Not mountaineers, but there will be some hard-to-reach places.

Ah yeah, that team was entirely composed of hard-core climbers active in the Himalayas in mid-winter. He scored fairly well as I recall
