An outrageous attempt at queue-jumping. Doesn't she realise there are more deserving elderly celebrities in line for a set of wings and a harp? This sort of thing should be stamped out immediately.

I can't tell what colour your face is as you don't have an avatar.

That BBC report sounds pretty terminal - ie they're brushing of the obits - reckon she'll be gonzo in time for the late editions tomorrow?

Should she survive, should she be considered for 2006?

Perhaps the cancer has returned.

Prince Rainier was said to be in a stable condition.

'Stable' means nowt other than her present condition is holding steady. They wouldn't be reporting it like this unless she was well on the way. She's cheated us for 2006, probably cheated us even for September.

Hmm, there's a thought! Mini monthly death lists. It's a long time to wait from one year to the next. Must be very frustrating when you have just spent months compiling the list for the coming year, posted it on 1st Jan and the next day, out of the blue, some "celeb" is reported as being "in a critical condition".

Could have a thread for each coming month where members or otherwise could pick 5 names - limit to maximum of 3 from this years list plus 2 "dark horses". Get them posted before the end of the previous month and see who has the best success rate.

Any takers?

P.S.

If we do decide to go for this, I'm not putting my 5 in until nearer the end of the month, to avoid the frustration of them popping in the meantime! Timing will be of the essence!

Maybe there should be 40 "fixed" on the list at the beginning of the year, with the other 10 being reviewed on a monthly basis. Then if someone gets better/worse they can be removed/added to the list.

There's nothing more stable than a nice flat line on the ECG. Sounds to me like she's headin' that way.

So was Red Rum.

For most of his life.

Hello all!

Don't know if Mo is a 'big' enough political figure, but I think this country needs a good state funeral. The US recently had Regan, after which I believe national sentiment and support got a lot stronger, at least briefly. As our rather idealistic guest suggests, Mo is a well-like and popular figure, although I suppose her death won't send the entire country into a state of mourning. We need another Diana-type.

Oh, that'll definitely do the job. She should be as right as rain in five minutes flat, due to the proven healing power of prayer.

I don't know why the (ex)Pope didn't think of it.

I believe we missed just such an opportunity when Don Estelle went!

iain, maybe you need to take a look at this tutorial regarding posting and creating new threads in a forum. You continually choose to create new threads when there is already an existing thread on the same topic. An existing thread for Mo Mowlams is right here.

Regards,

I think Maggie's will end up being a state funeral whether the bloody Labour government wants it or not - I reckon there'll be hundreds of thousands lining the streets - I know I'd go out of respect and I'm not all that mad and right-wing.

A propos Ms Mowlam, and before the BBC Leftie Eulogy Machine is switched on:

1. She consistent appeased and sucked up to the IRA including calling that murdering bastard McGuiness "baby"

2. She was so incompetent she left high security materials lying around on a train

3. She has consistently attacked the Royal family

4. She is such a good socialist that she married a senior investment banker

The woman is a gross hypocrite at best and a traitor to her country at worst. Hugging people, acting like a slob when you're representing the Crown and getting a brain tumour doesn't make you a saint.

I'd go to Mrs. T's funeral as well, carrying a large klaxon horn and dancing the hokey-cokey with a few thousand others.

re: Mo.mo

1. She helped to stop the IRA blowing innocent people to pieces, only to have Mandelson swan in and grab the credit.

2. So have senior security figures on numerous occasions.

3. Your Problem being?

4. Are you suggesting she not marry someone on a point of principle?

Not being a huge fan of the recent Labour governments, Mowlam was one of the few bright lights in the cabinet.

Okay okay, a state-like funeral. Would thousands line the streets for Jule Andrews? She's a Dame, so that's somewhat state...

With regards to Mo, the fact is that there are serious pros and cons to any politician. The point is whether the former outweighs the latter or not. I think in her case it does. The fact that she "consistently attacked the Royal Family" surely puts her in line for a sainthood?
