WW1 Survivors vs Titanic Survivors

Recommended Posts

I wonder if the makers of The Last Tommy might decide to develop their brand of documentary, you know, The Last Titanic Survivor, the British Blackshirt, The Last Victorian.

C'mon, it'd make our amateur research on here a lot easier.

How about The Last of the Mohicans or The Last Emperor?

I had to video it last night and haven't seen it yet, so don't spoil the ending!

The diminutive Austrian house painter did it!

Wasn't that the sequel, Josco old chum?

[blush]Ahh, hrrmmph [/blush]

He was a corporal in the first one though.

and a star of the silent screen.

Folks with access to BBC TV might find the second half of this documentary quite interesting.

First part was last night unfortunately. Second part Thurs 15th 9.00pm

Erm, which I mentioned here.

Still I suppose imitiation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Might be if one could spell imitation!

I did watch the first part last night. Riveting stuff. Should be compulsory viewing as a part of the history curriculum.

(Oops, spelling mistake by me too!)

In my initial post I wrote Initiaition instead of imitiation, which is even weirder.

And when I edited it, I failed to correct it properly. Serves me right I supose.

Hell, we've got the makings of a hit TV show here. We gather all the UK WW1 vets and Titanic survivors in Brinsworth House, show an hour of highlights every night and put it on 24 on some subscription channel for the real saddos.

"Dig, Shudder"

"Dig Mother"

Don't be rediculous.  That is like saying my Uncle Martha will die before My Uncle Walden just because he has less water retention.  People kick off when they do and the war vets have the added problem of the longer term emotional stress which would add to their decease level factor wouldn't it?  Or am I over simplifying generic pharmaceuticals again?

It's true that people kick off when they do. That doesn't mean every living person has the same chance to die in a given time interval. It's an observed fact that the older one gets, the bigger the odds one dies. This has two consequences:

1. If we have two groups of people, that are the same size, but different in average age, we expect the older group to go extinct first.

2. If we have two groups of people who have the same average age, but one is larger than the other, we expect the smaller group to go extinct first.

RMS Titanic sank April 14, 1912. About 700 people survived, none of who can be younger than 93.

WWI ended on Nov 11, 1918. Several millions of soldiers survived, none of who can be younger than 96, if we assume that 15 is practically the minimum age to enlist.

Considering that the WWI veterans outnumbered the Titanic survivors by 4 orders of magnitude, I expect them to outlive the Titanic survivors, especially if we take veterans of the Central powers into account as well.

regards,

Hein

;):o:dead:well im hot and i dont care if we not talking about that

This isn't really a fair contest. 81 WW1 survivors vs 3 Titanic survivors.

The survivors of the Titanic might win in extra time

They might need a penalty shoot-out.
