King Harald V of Norway

Recommended Posts

Hmmm has had a couple of health issues and hospitalisations the last few years. Might be worth a punt for the DL next year IMO

He held his annual New Year's Eve speech on december 31. For a long time, there was uncertainty as to whether it was he or the crown prince who was going to give the speech.

Not sure about 2023 but definitely can't see him making it far past summer 2024.

MN Gov Tim Walz paid a visit yesterday

Well, that's one way to get a free vacation... Few hours of work, then a load of receptions at which the food and drinks are paid for. Plus first or business there and back. Not sure if Minnesota's gov has a plane which could make the trip privately, so would have likely been commercial (maybe leased, but I doubt the cost is reasonable).

Yesterday King Harald and his older sister Princess Astrid, Mrs. Ferner, were present during the World Championship final in biathlon in Holmenkollen. They congratulated the winners. King Harald and Princess Atrird's booth looked good.

If you look closely at the king's shoes, you can see him wearing the popular moonboots. It has become a tradition for the Norwegian royal family to wear these shoes when they are out and about in the snow. Princess Astrid and Queen Sonja have also been seen wearing these shoes.

Even though she is 91 years old, Princess Astrid still performs royal duties. She attends state dinners, various meetings, and other activities with other members of the royal family.

Meets Margrethe II of Denmark (and also falls down to the ground on the red carpet). Looks great for someone who's been in and out of hospital on IV meds recently.

Right after getting helped up:

It was only a joke.  He did his impression of Joe Biden.

Reportedly hospitalised in Malaysia with infection.

If he’s able to travel to Malaysia, he should be in pretty good shape !

I'm amazed how he's easily in a worse state than other recently abdicated monarchs (including those who abdicated 10 years ago like Juan Carlos) but still shows no signs of relinquishing the throne. He makes the former Danish queen seem like a professional jogger in her twenties in comparison.

He already said he wouldn't abdicate. But I agree, he's in far worse condition than most of the others, he only just recovered from a prior infection and this is now his 4th or 5th hospitalization within the last 2 years.
