Funereal Music

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what music would be appropriate to be played at the funerals of famous people (and our own DL'rs!)

I would have to kick of with:

Lemmy - Killed by Death (Motorhead)

G.W. Bush - Rock You Like a Hurricane (Scorpions)/No. of the Beast (Iron Maiden)

Tony Blair - How much is that Doggy in the Window

Abi Titmuss - Who are You (The Who)

Charlotte Church - Charlotte (The Macc Lads)

That's the idea anyway.

"AIN'T IT GRAND, TO BE BLOOMIN' WELL DEAD!

by

Leslie Sarony

Lately there's nothing but trouble, grief and strife

There's not much attraction about this bloomin' life

Last night I dreamt I was bloomin' well dead

As I went to the funeral, I bloomin' well said,

Look at the flowers, bloomin' great orchids

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

And look at the corfin, bloomin' great 'andles

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

I was so 'appy to think that I'd popped off

I said to a bloke with a nasty, 'acking cough

Look at the black 'earse, bloomin' great 'orses

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

Look at the bearers, all in their frock coats

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

And look at their top 'ats, polished with Guiness

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

Some people there were praying for me soul

I said, 'It's the first time I've been off the dole'

Look at the mourners, bloomin' well sozzled

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

Look at the children, bloomin' excited

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

Look at the neighbours, bloomin' delighted

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

'Spend the insurance', I murmered, 'for alack

'You know I shan't be with you going back.'

Look at the Missus, bloomin' well laughing

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

Look at me Sister, bloomin new 'at on

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

And look at me Brother, bloomin' cigar on

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

We come from clay and we all go back they say

Don't 'eave a brick it may be your Aunty May

Look at me Grandma, bloomin' great haybag

Ain't it grand, to be bloomin' well dead!

One of the high rise dormitories at the College I attended was directly across the street from a cemetery...one of the residents of an upper floor appartment was known for placing the speakers of his state of the art stereo system in the window and blasting 'Another One Bites The Dust' out the window when funeral parties would arrive at graveside.

People tell me that I am sick but that certainly takes the biscuit.

Thats not sick, thats just mean.

Playing "Barry Manilow" would have been sick!

I am sure Freddy Mercury would have seen the funny side had it been played at his funeral though ;)

I'm not actually sure if I would like a song played at my funeral.

On second thoughts, it might be a good idea. I don't know.

Who cares.

My other half wants Another one bites the dust and Who wants to live forever. A bit of a queen fan perhaps?

Ooh, someone who likes Peter Hammill!

Hammill has made more songs that might work well for a funeral. Stranger Still or the ever popular My Room come to mind. OTOH, this may just be my taste in cheerful music speaking.

Hein

I have instructed Gunjawoman to play 'If you don't know me by know' by The Simply Reds. I also want a life size cardboard cut-out of me on a spring to pop out of the coffin at some stage, although this part is negotiable.

Why spend money on a card board cut out when you can use the real thing.

That would be humerous. :rip:

You can't beat a bit of Gregorian Chant for a classy funeral.

Pop/Rock songs at a Funeral are just so gauche.

Ah where's your sense of fun? "Fire" by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown or "Going Underground" by The Jam depending how I was going out.

For the Anarchist's funeral you could have The Traditional wedding march " Here comes the Bride".

Now that would really confuse people.

Peter Sellers

.... Sellers died of a heart attack on July 24, 1980. Displaying his unending sense of humor, the comic said good-bye with one last joke. At Sellers' request, the song "In The Mood" was played at his funeral, a tune that he hated. According to biographer Roger Lewis, Sellers had told his son Michael that the song was "wonderfully inappropriate - hence, wonderfully appropriate - for solemn occasions."
