What about Stairway To Heaven? or Paradise City? or a personal favorite Free Bird?

Or I will write a song that will be played at my funeral.

-s

Ah paradise city, a song that comes to mind.

'Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty!"

Also writing a tribute song to yourself really

isn't a bad idea. I feel it's something i myself should

have thought of.

Heigh-ho me hearties!

Kipper me capstans, if it ain't that salty old scallywag Skinny Hein then I'm a Dutchman!

Arrr! Hoist the Jolly Roger and sally forth to man the poop deck.

etc, etc...

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

Drink and the devil had done for the rest

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

The mate was fixed by the bosun's pike

The bosun brained with a marlinspike

And cookey's throat was marked belike

It had been gripped by fingers ten;

And there they lay, all good dead men

Like break o'day in a boozing ken

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of the whole ship's list

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Dead and be damned and the rest gone whist!

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

The skipper lay with his nob in gore

Where the scullion's axe his cheek had shore

And the scullion he was stabbed times four

And there they lay, and the soggy skies

Dripped down in up-staring eyes

In murk sunset and foul sunrise

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of 'em stiff and stark

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Ten of the crew had the murder mark!

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead

Or a yawing hole in a battered head

And the scuppers' glut with a rotting red

And there they lay, aye, damn my eyes

Looking up at paradise

All souls bound just contrawise

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of 'em good and true'

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Ev'ry man jack could ha' sailed with Old Pew,

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

There was chest on chest of Spanish gold

With a ton of plate in the middle hold

And the cabins riot of stuff untold,

And they lay there that took the plum

With sightless glare and their lips struck dumb

While we shared all by the rule of thumb,

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

More was seen through a sternlight screen

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

Chartings undoubt where a woman had been

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

'Twas a flimsy shift on a bunker cot

With a dirk slit sheer through the bosom spot

And the lace stiff dry in a purplish blot

Oh was she wench or some shudderin' maid

That dared the knife and took the blade

By God! she had stuff for a plucky jade

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

Drink and the devil had done for the rest

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

We wrapped 'em all in a mains'l tight

With twice ten turns of a hawser's bight

And we heaved 'em over and out of sight,

With a Yo-Heave-Ho! and a fare-you-well

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell

Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell,

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

All excellent songs Zeppelin, I would love to see your choice of 'desert island discs'in the 'things to do while waiting for death' thread.

An acquaintance of mine plays the organ at the crem. Sometimes he only has to put a tape on. One day he had the task of selecting the right song from a compilation of songs that saw us through the war and then pressing 'Play'. The aim was that the departed would disappear to the tune of 'Blue Birds over the White Cliffs of Dover'. However he cocked it up and while half of those gathered pissed themselves and half wept, the coffin disappeared to a raucous rendition of 'Roll out the Barrel'.

My friend's uncle had Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive' played at his recent funeral; his favourite song by all accounts. The irony was lost on most of the mourners I suspect.

Somewhere or other in one of these threads, I think I've mentioned that I want the classic tune from ' The Wizard of Oz' played at my funeral.

' Ding! Dong! The witch is dead! ' - sing along now...

Brilliant! It could have only been surpassed by the song being Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes.'

Or possibly the Crazy World of Arthur Brown's 'Fire.'

:P

Although I doubt either of those would have been on a compilation of songs that saw us through the war...

Again, I'm sure there's another similar thread about this, but I don't know where.

I can't remember what I put last time, I just hope it's something hugely inappropriate that gets played. Perhaps Mr Shatner's beautiful version of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds would work nicely? Or I could insist on the full length version of Shine On You Crazy Diamonds by Pink Floyd, just to make people start to fidget a bit. Then a bit more, etc.

I'd consider paying in advance (not really much choice about when to pay I suppose) to get the funeral place to play either 'Kyle's Mum Is A Bitch' or 'Uncle F*cker' (both from South Park) but I suspect not even a liberal trendy vicar would play such stuff.

Unless it was that Rev. Chris Brain from about 10 years back who organised church raves, or something. :)

My Mum has actually pre-paid her funeral. One option was a jazz band for an extra £200. She hasn't booked it but keeps threatening/promising to amend the funeral plan.

Lots of options on page 5 of this document

I see a perfect combination of a release of doves, a military funeral with rifle volleys over the grave and a dinner party after the the funeral.

Hein

it has been a long year and the days are getting shorter but that cannot nor will it stop me from searching for information.

Now earlier another person offended my good senses by refering to Edgar by a name I had long ago bestowed upon him. Well I then remembered a little ditty the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem used to sing so here you go...

I've traveled all over this world

And now to another I go

And I know that good quarters are waiting

To welcome old Rosin the Bow

To welcome old Rosin the Bow

To welcome old Rosin the Bow

And I know that good quarters are waiting

To welcome old Rosin the Bow.

When I'm dead and laid out on the counter

A voice you will hear from below

Saying "Send down a hogshead of whiskey

To drink with old Rosin the Bow"

To drink with old Rosin the Bow"

To drink with old Rosin the Bow"

Saying "Send down a hogshead of whiskey

To drink with old Rosin the Bow".

Then get a half dozen stout fellows

And stack them all up in a row

Let them drink out of half gallon bottles

To the memory of Rosin the Bow

To the memory of Rosin the Bow

To the memory of Rosin the Bow

Let them drink out of half gallon bottles

To the memory of Rosin the Bow.

Then get this half dozen stout fellows

And let them all stagger and go

And dig a great hole in the meadow

And in it put Rosin the Bow

And in it put Rosin the Bow

And in it put Rosin the Bow

And dig a great hole in the meadow

And in it put Rosin the Bow.

Then get ye a couple of bottles

Put one at me head and me toe

With a diamond ring scratch upon them

The name of old Rosin the Bow

The name of old Rosin the Bow

The name of old Rosin the Bow

With a diamond ring scratch upon them

The name of old Rosin the Bow.

I've only this one consolation

As out of this world I go

I know that the next generation

Will resemble old Rosin the Bow

Will resemble old Rosin the Bow

Will resemble old Rosin the Bow

I know that the next generation

Will resemble old Rosin the Bow.

I fear that old tyrant approaching

That cruel remorseless old foe

And I lift up me glass in his honor

Take a drink with old Rosin the Bow

Take a drink with old Rosin the Bow

Take a drink with old Rosin the Bow

And I lift up me glass in his honor

Take a drink with old Rosin the Bow.

I dug it out of a google search I did....
