Harold Pinter

Recommended Posts

Harold Pinter will not collect his award in Sweden on December 10th due to ill health. He will however deliver a speech to the Academy on December 7th, which will be transmitted live on Channel 4. His last testament Dennis Potter-style?

Harold Pinter has now cancelled that Academy speech, due to ill health

instead a pre-recorded one will be given.

Damn, let's hope he makes it to 2006. If he does, I'd say he's as close to a lock as possible, moreso than even good ol' Estelle I'd say. ;)

Now I think I may want to use my joker on him instead... ah choices, choices... such is the enigma of the Derby Dead Pool.

Isn't it cheating to put someone on the 2006 list who's known to be terminally ill by the end of 2005? Or is it a case of "they all count"?

Windsor is right - Pinter is famous for being a playwright, not for being ill.

A prime candidate for 2006 if he can last another 25 days.

He had bloody better last another 25 days!

I can't be arsed changing my DDP again.

I think I may go back on my work and change my Joker....

If Pinter does last, I think he'll be practically everybody's joker on the DDP.

The points will all cancel each other out. :referee:

Could be a new DDP record for joker successes.

I'm not sure myself as this is my first entry.

I think you just enter any time from now until the 31st of December.

We can always hope that a majority of the people who do these types of things don't put as much thought into it as we do. :(

I've just finished watching Pinters Nobel speech on Channel 4.

A very powerful speech condemning American foreign policy over the decades.

He really laid into Bush and Blair, effectively calling them war criminals.

His spirit is still strong, but his body looked extremely frail.

He was sitting in a wheelchair throughout the speech.

Guest Sebastian

Harold Pinter (this years nobel laureate for literature) won't make it to the nobel ceremony because of bad health. His doctor forbid him to travel. So he will be a good guess for 2006 deathlist.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a bad miss for 2005. Still I see he was still up to a good rant against the Americans. I like that. Very Dylan Thomas

Tricky, seeing as it's an Edmundo Ros thread...

I'm not so sure that he's a dead cert for '06. It is said that he has recovered from the throat cancer and that the current condition is in his mouth, but not cancerous. He may well be good for a couple of years yet...

Hopefully that will avoid him becoming, as Godot said, a bad miss for 2005. Spirit goes an awful long way. Did you notice that James Doohan sort of just gave up? Or maybe it was because they held him a "beam me up Scotty, one last time" party. That might've depressed the hell out of him.

Well unless there's new news reports, there's not much to say that wouldn't be mere space filler.

If Lou Rawls hadn't died, his space probably would have gone quiet too. It just so happens, he never got that chance.

I hope though that soon we shall have something to discuss here... and I think Pinter will be either our second or third Deathlist hit this year.

As long as it's less than 12, I suppose it doesn't matter much
