Margaret Thatcher

Recommended Posts

I wonder why it is that whenever Thatcher is disscused in this forum we always talk about how she effectd the coal industry?

Strictly sepaking she didn't close down the coal industry; she ended its subsidy and changed the trade union legislation regarding it.

I'm much more bothered by "There's no such thing as society" ,myself.

The question was why is there so much venom directed against ex-PMs and in particular Mrs T.

In my case it comes down to her policies fucking up most industries north of Watford. The coal and steel industries were my local ones.

It was indeed and I thank those who answered. I guess maybe people from specific regions of the U.S. may have there own specific axe to grind with certain politicians. Its hard to determine that from my East Coast US perspective.

You are not going to like this honez but what the world now needs is a G'day Sheila Thatcher to fuck up the Australian coal mining industry offset Australia's unsustainable ways. Correct me if the stats have changed but Australia are the worst offenders for individual CO2 production, and guess what, they love coal too. A cheap local resource it may be but that cheapness comes with a hefty ethical pricetag and undoubtedly more slip slop slapping in the future.

Yes Mono, I believe you're right. All the coal and steel you can eat and enough uranium just lying around on the ground here to power many a megalomaniac's world domination plans. Although, like a bad Indiana Jones movie, it's generally in places writhing in poisonous snakes, spiders and snaggletoothed crocodiles, which sort of evens things out a little.

Having said that, given the amount of sunlight, crispy-bacon-making UV and whopping great hole in the ozone layer, it's ironic that we depend on coal so much when there's vast amounts of unfiltered coronal ejecta hitting us 365 days out of every 3651/4.

And to put it into context Mr Miser, it'd be more like maybe a dozen populous and money-making states around NY giving it to the 38 others with a pointy and splintered stick.

Thatcher - she's a bitch. And I can't wait until the day it's "Thatcher she was a bitch"

I think that the bottom line is that even if the UK coal industry had not been decimated under Thatcher we would have pretty much stopped using it by now anyway.

Now, does anyone have any news about her current state of health?

I had a dream last night that she died.

I know this means nothing....but I want it on record that if she dies tomorrow I am psychic.

If she does, and you are, you're both 30-odd years too late.

Maggie's pulse-rate must be taking a hike every time she watches the news at the moment. If the latest Arg-ument over alleged oil exploration by UK companies around Las Malvinas escalates into a kerfuffle, she might actually start believing she's died and gone to heaven (hell, actually Maggie) and pop her clogs for us.

In a further possible twist, pure conjecture on my part, is there some way that Scratcher could be involved in this? He does have connections to Ely Calil, notorious oil thief. Perhaps he's in cahoots with Calil to engineer not only huge profits from the oil but also, killing two knackered old birds with one stone, so to speak, to give his mum a heart attack? I wonder if he stands to inherit anything from mum's death?

"But it was Thatcher who pulled the plug on them. And she didn't do it because it was unavoidable, (it would probably have been possible to salvage quite a bit more in spite of the unions etc.) she did it because she hated socialists and miners and northerners ..."

Right two points..... if you knew anything about Margaret Thatcher you would know she comes from Grantham in Nottinghamshire therefore she is a northerner - so rubbish argument to be honest and another thing she is my grandmothers cousin and to be honest find this whole site macabre and offensive for any relatives who happen to come across this site. How would you like it if you saw someone creating a website to watch one of your relatives to see if they were alive or not?

shame on you all

Bollocks. I was going to do this exact same rebuttal but got beaten to it, but thank god I did 'cos I'd have made a mistake and said Grantham was in Lincolnshire. Thanks nottinghamgirl, you've saved me making a right twat of myself.

Margaret Thatcher is your grandmother's cousin as well? What an amazing coincidence.

I had to check back, but as I suspected that quote is from me.

Coming from Scotland as I do with roots from what used to be County Durham, I see North as a relative thing. And anyway, the miners in Nottinghamshire weren't proper miners were they?

That doesn't detract however from the truth of what I wrote.

Who your grandmother is related to isn't much of an argument. One of my grandmothers had a commendation from Margaret Thatcher which she kept face down in the bottom of a box. She's dead by the way. You read it here first.

Shame on you!

point 1. You come in here and say Grantham is in Nottinghamshire! No it is not. It's in Lincolnshire.

point 2. You say Nottinghamshire is Northern - How very dare you! It's East Midlands - that's even different to west midlands (notice I'm not even bothering to use capitals) and no where near "the north". Remember there's a whole different land to the north of Nottinghamshire - Yorkshire - and I'm sure that they have a whole different approach to "the north" than we do in Nottinghamshire.

point 3. If Maggie were of Nottinghamshire stock then I'm sure her retoric would not have been half as bad as it actually was.

point 4. My roots are NG16 (even when I'm away) - so I'm right.

Margaret Thatcher has reportedly died

Mark Mardel | 24.05.2010 20:34

Reputable sources have reported that former British Prime Minister and Conservative party leader Baroness Margaret Thatcher has passed away.

Dammit .. if only it was true and DL got another hit on a rather dry year

That report is in a minority of one today. Might I suggest it's a grimly funny hoax timed to co-incide with the Queen's speech on a Con/Lib programme for government? Summat likely to have her spinning in her grave, were she there already.

She was at the State Opening of Parliament today.

She looked well.

Back in Downing Street (again)...

She looks so tiny now!

In power, it was like she was 6ft tall...

That's age and loss of power for you.

Interesting bit of film. She doesn't look at all sharp, needed the railings for support. The Queen would hammer her in an egg and spoon race.

Still plenty of support for the idea of bumping her off it would seem, judging by that audience's applause.

Ah these blasts from the past

Mozza

"Margaret's Injection"

Love is our large concern

But that's become difficult to share.

She cannot open her eyes

They've been glued by greed.

I'm not in the habit of hurting a person

Never relished violence

But Margaret it's time for your injection.

Should I fetch a priest and gun?

Her trip is now beginning

She dies unloved.

She'll never be forgotten she made sure of that

Selling back to people what they'd already got.

I wish I missed you more not never a wound to heal.

I wish I'd hurt you more pain is your just reward.

I wish I'd killed you more pain is your just reward.

Time is now mine to kill.

Her corpse is now threatening to smell.

I watch her blood congeal just skin and bones.

She'll never be forgotten we'll paint on her grave

And take from her kind any love that they'd made.

Thatcher the bitch

Ah, a sweet lyrical morsel indeed.

And proof, if ever it was needed, that there is always a silver lining.

It does raise the question of where they will stick her when the time comes. Is there a plot? Westminster Abbey, possibly? Maybe she's thought of this and put her name down for the local crem. Burial in the open is tricky. When they did that with Oliver Cromwell, people dug him up and put his head on a spike. I'm sure they'd be able to find a spike at what remains of Orgreave.
