If you stand up for traditional family values and Biblical morality nowadays you are branded as "stupid" and "bigoted".

I think "stupid" and "bigoted" are excellent terms for people who hijack the term "traditional family values" and use it to describe behaviour that is intrinically mysogenistic, racist and xenophobic.

Traditional family values do not promote hate, intolerence and subjegation. I maybe incorrect, but doesn't this go against the grain for Christian values too?

There's of course also the matter of principle that a decent democracy is a republic. Not only is it firmly undemocratic that a nation doesn't get to choose its head of state, it's also undemocratic that in a monarchy the head of state has little say in her or his life and mode of employment.
The point is Australia has clearly and freely decided to retain its monarchy. The issue has now been settled. Australia doesn't want such lunacy and it just goes to show the republicans could careless about the democratic wishes of the people that they refuse to accept the outcome of the poll and keep pushing the issue. Australia shall remain a constitutional monarchy and that is only right. If it wasn't for the fatherland there wouldn't even be an Australia and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Australia already has its own elected parliament and prime minister. That is enough already!

I'd never thought we'd catch one of those alive in our forum: the pompous royalist. Take notes, Windsor, there's something to be learnt here. :P

May I ask you something, just out of curiosity? Don't feel obliged to answer. You claim to be a pommy by birth. Do you have Australian citizenship?

Anyway, there'll be new referenda, and one day it'll pass. I wonder if I'll live to see it.

regards,

Hein

If it wasn't for the fatherland there wouldn't even be an Australia.

I wasn't aware that the Germans had built Australia. I thought it was just left there when Pangaea broke up. Next you'll be telling us that Albert Speer designed the Sydney Opera House.

What exactly does this have to do with Margaret Thatcher? Well, yes, it is annoying, but it's still off-topic. Another day, another page of off-topic, talentless codswallop on the DL.

Xenon II

I have wrote poetry in the past

Yeah, but poets have 'written' it. Thatcher worked tirelessly to keep us all on task and contributing to the GDP. There's a curious irony in the meandering and unproductive nature on this thread. Mebbe some Ph.D student will find it and gain praise for his mighty work: 'Thatcher; Changed Political Structures but Failed Where Human Nature is Concerned.'

TLC you need to read between the lines here. Xenon reads the Guardian, writes poetry, works in his spare time for Amnesty International, votes for the Green Party, hugs trees, eats lentils, lives with his "partner" Keith and supports AIDS charities. It's as clear as day.

I don't live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland anymore so I don't read the Guardian but I am a very strong defender of the union between Great Britain and Ireland as well as the monarchy itself and right wing causes. I have wrote poetry in the past, I don't work for that group, I vote for the Liberal party in Australia (which is despite the name the Australian equivalent of the Conservative and Unionist party and is pro monarchist), I never hugged a tree, hardly ever eaten lentils, don't have a "partner", campaign against the homosexual deathstyle and AIDS is a Godsend against the wicked. :)

(reading between the lines) :P

Has Keith just recently left you then, Xenon II? Just try and remember the good times, and all the things that made it special while it lasted.

Is it all AIDS that's a godsend, all those wicked children born with it eh? Not that I'm saying your (presumably) intended target of homosexuals, drug addicts, heretics, communists, weirdos, hippies, republicans, pacifists, people of 'low moral fibre', prostitutes etc deserve it any more than anyone else.

A sad day for the world that you can support anything known as Liberal, even if the name's not particularly accurate.

You are almost starting to make me warm to Mrs Thatcher, although hopefully that's warm as in 'warm my hands over her as she burns, whilst choosing not to piss on her'.

Xenon II gives monarchists a bad name (if that was possible).

How can you be a monarchist and still stand for traditional family values?

The heir to the thone had an affair whilst married as did his wife. Thus he is one of those adulterers. The heir to the throne is a divorcee and remarried in a civil ceremony.

The Duke of York is a divorcee and a playboy prince.

The Earl of Wessex is such an obvious closet homosexual.

The Princess Royal is a divorcee and now biding her time for a second devorce.

The late Princess Margaret was an alcoholic drug adict who may have bore a child outside of marriage.

Princess Margaret kept a toy boy in her later years.

Princess Michael of Kent is having an affair with a Russian tycoon.

George VI beat his wife, the Queen Mother.

Most male monarchs previous to George VI had a sting of mistresses.

Rumours:

The Duke of Edinburgh had an affair.

The Queen had an affair.

The Duke of Edinburgh had his former daughter in law killed.

The Prince of Wales is a bi-sexual.

I'm sure there are more but Eastenders is about to start.

You appear to have totally missed the point of my earlier posts. Australia voted to retain its status quo over one republican model. This was the only unpalatable choice offered by the PM. And not by much either.

Australia in no way stated (or was offered) the choice of becoming a republic over a constitutional monarchy. If we were given that one choice, the result would have been a resounding yes in favour of standing on our own minus the foreign monarchy.

You seem to think the issue has ben settled once and for all because of the rigged referendum. Thankfully I doubt that this is case.

Australia has voted NO towards a republic. The issue is now settled PERMANTLY once and for all. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland government should take a position towards its colonies that China does towards Tawain - attempt to break away from the mother country officially by declaring independence (become a republic) and you will be invaded. Labour are USELESS when it comes to defending the UK's sovereignty!!!. We could still overrun you and take you over any time we wanted. We are one of the worlds super powers and you are nothing! Republicans are pathetic. Australia voted against a republic PERIOD and now let that be the end of it. As for the "rigged referendum" it was held FAIR AND SQUARE and it was ridiculous and highly offensive that one was even held in the first place! Australia will not be pandering to these extremists and their unpopular nonsense again! Anyone campaigning for a republic should be taken out into the street and given a public flogging!

Sounds like mostly unsubstantiated rumours, hearsay and BS. I'd rather have a monarchy than yet more elections for a president, what a waste of money! I'd rather have a dictatorship than elections period. I hate voting and in a police state like Australia it is COMPULSORY!

Btw, Eastenders is one of my favorite programs (Australian TV SUCKS!!!!!). You have to have satellite TV to get it in the colonies. Isn't that outrageous?!

Aha! That's one of the bad things of living over there (apart from the lousy climate) the filthy government charges you an arm and a leg just to view state controlled television (wouldn't be so bad if you could get tv sets that don't broadcast the socialist regimes propoganda but you can't)!

The PM did what he did best, and weaseled his way out of a bad situation by pitting his opponents against themselves, instead of addressing the fundamental issue. Playing politics for their own gain is arguably something the Howard government excels at, which almost always isn't in the public's interests.

So. Are you sure you still want an elected Head of State?

Absolutely. Elected by us, not one appointed by HRH as her proxy.

If we stuff it up and put some pillock in the position, at least it'll be our mistake.

The Queen appoints whoever the Prime Minister wants as Governor General and acts as head of state when the Queen is not in residence (ie practically the whole time). A president would only be doing the same thing and would cost more if you are going to go down the elected route, otherwise why change? The Governor General is an AUSTRALIAN chosen by the AUSTRALIAN prime minister. The Queen only does the appointing, she doesn't get to decide who he will be! If anything the monarchy needs MORE power not less!!

It will pass over my dead body! I think one of the reasons that Australia is allowing the country to be invaded by Asians and other non whites from a non European background is so they will vote in favor of a republic! :P I would hope that anyone not born in Australia or of European heritage would be excluded from voting in any future poll (which should be decades away or hopefully NEVER!).

The only reason I don't like Thatcher is 1) the loss of Empire during her misrule particularly her surrender over Hong Kong to Red China 2) I feel Prime Minister is a mans job (the Bible backs this up) and it brings the office into ridicule to have a female in charge, she did a reasonable job otherwise considering she is only a female and 3) She stole my milk at school! Otherwise I don't have a problem with her but that first point in particular is enough to make me hate her guts. (She was a bit of a sellout over Northern Ireland as well ALTHOUGH NOWHERE NEAR AS BAD AS SOCIALIST DICTATOR BLAIR!!!, if the self styled "Republic of Ireland" wants a say in the running of Northern Ireland, they should never have left the UK and they should rejoin. After all we don't let say FRANCE have a say in the running of England!).

The BRITISH particularly the ENGLISH built Australia. Of course the place would still exist if they hadn't have settled it, but it wouldn't be called Australia and it would be a third world country without European settlement. Whites brought civilization to Australia and their achievements are celebrated every year in a national holiday (Australia day! There was no Australia before white settlement.) The British built Australia up into the successful, rich and highly developed country it is today and I don't think it is unreasonable that the monarchy is allowed to continue to rule over it! Monarchy in Australia has worked particularly well for over 100 years!

One or two things there Xenon.

The Queen is no longer sovereign of Ireland, only Nothern Ireland.

The Empire was virtually if not completely gone before Thatcher entered office.

Hong Kong was given back after she left office.

How can you put down my earlier post as mere speculation. The Prince of Wales is known to have committed adultery. It is a fact that he is divorced. It is a fact that his elder brother and sister are divorced (and separated). It is a fact that Princess Margaret was an alcoholic and it is a fact that the Queen Mother was a batered wife (not the chip pan sort).

The ones listed as rumours have already been specified as such.

There are no traditional family values there. They are more disfunctional than mf family and that is saying something!

I hate people who refuse to take fact on board. Surely you must know that the Queen is hanging on in Australia probably due to electoral default. Also, a Republic over your dead body? I'm sure that could be arranged...

The Empire was mostly finished before Thatcher came to power but it was STILL a reasonable Empire. Techincally there is still an Empire even today (and there always will be for several remaining territories have no indegenious population, others are unlikely to ever become independent and good for them their loyalty is much appreciated and is to be commended! What is left are all now BRITISH CITIZENS meaning the "need"/desire to break away is dimenished). The point is what is left is barely worth having, before she came along we still had: Belize, Brunei, New Hebredies, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts Nevis, Hong Kong etc. Anything decent she saw to it we got rid of! The best remaining possesion after her unpatriotic (and idiotic!) wrecking spree is Bermuda! Hong Kong was given back after she had left office but it was HER FAULT that it was given back and the Queen is Queen of Ireland (6 former counties in the north east of the island) and I hope it is one day ALL IRELAND. After all, if Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc can have the Queen as head of state there's no logical reason Ireland can't!

Why would the Republic of Ireland want to have a Protestant head of state when they are prodominantly Catholic? Why would they want the British Sovereign as Head of State when they decided to ditch them in the 1920s?

The British Empire fell apart because we did not have the money or resources to keep it together. It was in Britain's best interest to get rid of the Empire when she did - albeit reluctantly. Legally, we had no right to keep Hong Kong after the 99 year lease (or whatever). I think it's a bloody good job we got rid of Hong Kong. We do not want the worlds next superpower to bear a grudge do we? Besides, I thought you liked totalitarian regimes...

It would be foolish to describe the existing areas currently under British rule as an Empire. It would be more foolish to see the Queen as some sort of Empress over her other Realms and Terriroties.

Britain still has an empire just not a very impressive one. Countries like Australia belong to the Queen. They are part of her Empire, where as the Falkland Islands for example belongs to Britain and is controllled by the British Government. Only part of Hong Kong was on a lease and i've already explained that once. The republic of Ireland should have never been allowed to break away from the rest of the nation. This was a mistake which will hopefully be rectified sometime in the future. The British Isles belong together, ALL of the British Isles, southern Ireland included. There will be a united Ireland when southern Ireland rejoins the UK at some future point and who knows whether the UK will even have a monarchy then so it might not even be an issue.

Well it is my problem because I am fighting against it and Asians and other non-whites invading Australia and upsetting the ethnic mix are not Aussies. The Queen is not my master, the Lord is and both crowns have the same monarch anyway.
