A Shortlist 2006

Which ones to survive all of 2006 ? Sorry - the software only allows one choice.

Th DL rules says that next year's list can only contain 25 of the 50 chosen this year being allowed to carry forward into the next year.

Of the original 2005 50, so far 11 have upped and gone, leaving another 14 to be booted out of this years list.

In other words, who do you think* will last all of 2006, and so aren't worth putting back into next year's list as DL candidates ?

It's a shame you can only vote for one.

I voted Maradona.

But I also think Norman Wisdom, Jerry Lewis and Ronnie Biggs will all see out '06.

With quite a few possibilitys here those such as Liz Taylor

or Ronnie Biggs could survive throughout all of 2006, but

i surely doubt the DL committee will risk leaving canidates

such as these off the list.

For next year the survivors are -

- Richard Pryor

- Diego Maradona

- Hamed Karzai

- Fidel Castro

- Claire Raynor

- Walter Cronkite

- Les Paul

- Olivia De Havilland

Those are my best guesses. It seems the DL has made some poor

random predictions involving the young canidates. Just as the

statistics show this year they have all failed to die.

I voted for Walter Cronkite, but I think that the following people will also survive 2006:

Jerry Lewis

Fidel Castro

Peter O’Sullivan

Kurt Waldheim

Betty Ford

Jake Lamotta

Diego Maradona

Hamid Karzai

Richard Pryor

Claire Raynor

Albert Hofmann

Norman Wisdom

Albert Hofmann

I have my hopes of the legendary creator of LSD living

many more days, but since he is turning age 100 in

January to predict him lasting a whole year is quite

risky i say.

When Dr.Albert Hofmann finally does pass i will

celebrate his life with magical mushrooms and

a couple bowles of purple haze and also to say

a enormous amount of delicious food.

Although a tribute bicycle ride i don't find neccesery.

As I have mentioned elsewhere in the past, a colleague I work with is a friend of Patrick Moore and visits him from time to time. She still maintains, that although not on top form, he isn't anywhere near pegging out yet - you've gotta go with the knowledge!

DWB :)

Maradona seems to be in pretty good shape these days - in a scenario seemingly tailor-made for Deathlist aficionados, he had that Fidel Castro on his chat show recently.

So there for since you go by the word of your colleague

as you described - Patrick Moore will remain off the 2006 list?

Karzai. It would be a shame to take him off the list. I like the idea of having someone on there younger than me. Maradona is looking healthy but coke usually gets you by 50 even when you long stopped chopping. Has that George Best dry-reached the end of his life-span in 2006? Quite possibly. Lets have sone young'ens in there. Make it sport.

Voted for Norman Wisdom.

Like already talked about it really should be the case these results feed into removing the highest scorers from next years list - said to be 14 names should no one else die before the year end.

I'm asking the Admin staff to use this tread with the highest regard. Looks like we only get one vote each so I would like to suggest a weighted count - say 5pts for each official vote cast in this poll and a single point of each name mentioned in the thread from those who wish to add upto another 13 names.

I'll get back to on my additional names after I get chance to tabulate them effectively.

Maybe your synapses will be so chemically altered and third eye so opened that you'll start posting sense.

I voted for Biggs. Get the bastard off the list!

I would have also voted for Maradona if multiple votes were possible.

Two I feel strongly about:

Maradonna: Too healthy and too busy enjoying life to croak soon.

Karzai: Smart enough to survive (probably) and - more to the point - obviously good at playing the western interests off against the domestic warlords meaning EVERYONE knows someone else in the job would be bad news.

Further to my post above, I've narrowed your list to 14 I feel should be removed from the current list - going into building next years list of 50 names.

42.60 Olivia deHavilland

42.77 Tony Martin

43.30 Peter O'Sullevan

46.61 Walter Cronkite

47.48 Milton Friedman

49.06 Les Paul

49.13 Herbert Lom

49.75 Jake LaMotta

49.86 Eli Wallach

50.37 Byron Nelson

51.10 M M Yogi

55.78 Norman Wisdom

57.07 Oscar Niemeyer

59.71 Ersest Gallo

The figures represent a relative guide factor not unlike a percentage of likelhood of dieing during the coming year - based on age, lifestyle and known illnesses. These numbers currently run up to record figure held by Ronnie Biggs's 265.07. Any number above 100 gives me serious concern, so the above 14 are prime canidates to be droped along with quite a few of the others. 13 with middling numbers being:

60.48 Kurt Waldheim

64.78 Claude Levi-Strauss

64.90 Al Lewis

66.33 Joseph Barbera

69.23 Claire Raynor

73.12 Michael Foot

77.06 Frankie Laine

80.24 Alex Solzhenitsyn

81.22 P W Botha

84.90 Brooke Astor

87.40 Bill Deedes

93.02 Betty Ford

98.05 Fidel Castro

I've got something like about a hundred names with scores of 100 or over. These 12 top scorers of yours really should be considered to be kept for 2006. Including:

107.98 Albert Hofmann

109.68 Hamed Karzai

111.61 Jane Wyman

127.51 Gen. Pinochet

137.01 Diego Maradona

139.34 Patrick Moore

141.50 J K Galbraith

143.63 Richard Pryor

148.30 Jerry Lewis

156.25 Gerald Ford

164.79 Liz Taylor

265.07 Ronnie Biggs

If your scoring system keeps in Maradona,

but excludes oldies like Ernest Gallo, then I'd say some rejigging is needed.

Good analysis, but I disagree with you regarding two candidates that you say could be potentially dropped from next years list deathlist. The first one is Brooke Astor, she is 103 and will be 104 on March 12th next year. I would be very hesitant to have her name removed. The second one is Claude Levi-Strauss, he has been looking very frail as of late and will be 97 in 2 weeks. I don’t see him making it to his 98th birthday.
