Since no dedicated Irish thread, this will do.
Charles Whelan of Sutton, Dublin, former Irish Ambassador to Spain, Algeria, Tunisia, Japan, Greece, Israel and the former USSR, died March 28, 2018 at the age of 93.

IRA veteran says Adams has lied all along about whether he was ever a member - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-49718168

Interesting photo in that article - I never knew Adams was a pipe smoker.  @Grim Up North, one for your theme team?

Shame the "Armalite and ballot box strategy" didn't extend to a decent Pipe Smoker of the Year promo campaign.

Given the lack of a random paramilitary parade thread maybe this is the place

Patrick Ryan - long suspected of high profile paramilitary involvement and subject of a refused extradition request from the Republic of Ireland - outs himself for involvement in Brighton and Hyde Park bombings: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-49797327

John Hume's death brought Gerry Adams out and he's looking fine - perhaps some new dental work needed.

Lord Trimble less so - for someone who's had heart trouble, maybe he's our replacement thread?

Trimble by far more likely to go before Adams for sure barring Gerry being diagnosed with a serious illness.

Re the above - Adams looked extremely healthy. I mean, there are dissident republicans still highly unimpressed with anything short of a complete military victory. So, there's a random element in the long term survival of any major figure in the politics of Ulster, but Adams looked fine and the front windows of the Sinn Fein office behind him didn't feel the need of protective shutters.

Trimble sounded rough on the radio - voice rather weak - especially compared to 85 year old Brid Rogers who sounded very well.
