Update on Eero Aarnio, creator of the Ball Chair, now 89:

Received some kind of an "lifetime achievement award" at a cultural gala last month. Spoke clearly, still sharp and could stand without a stick.

tbh, one for the People I Was Surprised to Find Out I Posted About Before thread!

Carolyn Bryant Donham, the woman who accused Emmett Till of "interacting inappropriately," leading to her husband and brother-in-law lynching him and becoming probably the first widespread cause celebre of the civil rights movement, is still with us. Would have assumed she died ages ago, and being as she's never been mentioned on her or picked in the DDP, so probably do you.

That doesn't prove anything; the only source for her being alive is one of those auto-generated birthday websites. There's a pattern here of 1940s actresses who are not really notable, nor alive.

50s/60s tennis journeyman Torben Ulrich, who once made it to the 4th round of Wimbledon, is still with us aged 92.

Has a more than decent obit chance for someone of his position in the game (world 96th) as his son is Lars Ulrich, Metallica co-founder and drummer.

just find out about him. Would be an interesting name to keep in mind !

He was one of the very first tennismen to wear a bandanna on court in the 50's whereas it was only worn by tenniswoman at the time

Genuinely surprised to read that both of the Lyman twins (popularly known as the "Rainman Twins" after the Hollywood film) are still alive.

Flo and Kay Lyman are the world's only female twins with savant autism (the form that allows ppl to hold incredible memories).

They received a lot of attention following a 2008 documentary on their lives. They were obsessed by Dick Clark, and were understandable devastated when he died. Neither of them looked a picture of health back then, so I was surprised to see they were still going so strong in 2018. They turn 66 in June. I would expect them to receive a QO via the Mail, Sun etc.

I could have sworn notorious Norwich City chairman Robert Chase died in the late 90s, but apparently he didn't and according to Company House is still alive aged 84. Cannot find any photos or interviews of him taken in the past two decades though.

Not only did he look a lot older than he was, he was also quite obese in the late 80s, early 90s. He's done very well to make it this far.

Pierre ‘Father Abraham’ Kartner, of Smurf fame, 86. I guess he did a Dunn by playing older than he was, but I still thought he’d be long gone.

And yes, I was singing the Smurf song, in case you were wondering.

Have been some health rumours about him in recent years but nothing substantial. Can't remember the last time I've seen him on tv and while that's a good thing music-wise, it could be something age or health related.

American actress Betty Phares (IMDb) who appeared with Laverne Thompson and Lindsay Bourquin (both dead) in The Three Stooges is still alive at 97

According to StarTiger she died on Jan 26th 2019, but was an error because in July 2019 she signed an autograph. So I submit a delete of her death info on IMDb

Good spot.

Whoever submitted that info clearly thought this was her. IMDb accepted it despite the different DOB. This is why IMDb is so dangerous as a site. I don't know what their criteria is for accepting new information, but it seems unnecessarily strict at times (i.e. when you submit records to them) and too relaxed at others (e.g. when you send them obituaries of someone with the same/similar name even if the dates don't match up).

I'm very frustrated that they won't remove the death date for Simone Sylvestre, despite me asking them three times now.

Yes this is getting serious, maybe @Lafaucheuse may know sth.  Has there been anything for her in the French press or nothing?
