I was surprised both Moira Shearer and Freddie Laker were alive, well, until they were dead. I thought both had died years ago. I was particularly surprised not knowing about Shearer as she has a Eurovision connection (hosted in 1972 when the UK came second yet-a-bloody-gain)

Anybody who has heard him murder " Santa Claus is coming to Town" must surely agree that he is nothing more than a Pub singer who by sheer luck or kissing the right C*** propelled himself to a stardom that he has never deserved!!

"Jeremy James Anthony Gibson Beadlebum" created a co- star in the person of the show's producer (whose name I've forgotten) and never failed to impress with his huge knowdege of American history.

 

Just as with The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy, the move to the telly was not an improvement.

I noticed on Genarians.com that Paul Halmos, inventor of the tombstone notation for mathematical proofs, just turned 90. I would have thought he died years ago, but apparentely not. Not sure if he's famous enough though (being the pretentious universitwunt that I am), and for all I know he's in perfect health, but just thought I'd float that one out there.

 

Also, Momofuku Ando, turning 96, is the guy who basically invented Ramen. I'm was very surprised that he was still around.
